just got a tzr 250 ,1989 g reg its arunner and taxed an tested needs some work so will be an on going project to turn it into an every day runner so i'm needing some info. can you help !

firstly have i got an english bike ? it has an alloy frame !
thought the english got a steel frame ? or is that the 125 ?

is the a manual aviable hard copy or on line ?

what is it surposed to rev to ?

can the frontend be either upgraded either replacing or a change of internals ?

and lastly what can i do with the rear shock seems to be lacking in damping .

sorrry loads of things to ask but like everyone I'm all excited about my little 2 smoker .

Hi,
all TZR250s have aluminium frames. If its a UK bike then the frame number will start with 2MA.
Manuals are available on line here: http://www.pure-2-stroke-spirit.info/

the front end can be upgraded, all depends how much you want to spend. fresh oil is the cheapest option, right up to a Maxton cartridge conversion.

Rear shocks can be rebuilt but there are plenty of aftermarket ones available.

hi thanks for the replies .
found the online manuals thanks.
Bought the bike (silly story just kinda happened !!!) pushed the boat out on the financial side, so just want to fix it up a bit and get it riding abit nicer till i can sort an upside down front end and something nice for the back end, (swingarm ?) and maybe a slight change to the fairing to bring it into the 20th century.
But whats a cheap replacement rear shock, I know for my kr1 i used an r6 with a lighter spring worked a treat,is there anything like that anyone can surgest ?
And is there a way to sort the forks ? like cheaper springs or what wieght oil will make the front feel nicer, will extra some more preload spacers help ?
any ideas ? what have others done ?
Tom !
will get some pics up soon ,with pics of the 125 with it they look so cute together LOL

The R6 shock can also be fitted to the TZR but it requires the removal of the chainguard and its front mounting point. The bottom of the shock also needs radiiusing to fit the tzr linkage. Other shocks maybe an easier fit.

A front end swap is possible but the TZR250 has a long headstock in comparison to most other bikes so its a little more involved. a spring change and fitting emulators is a cheapish common mod by the YPM lot (Yamaha Past Master race series)

There are a couple of TZRs that have had RGV USD front ends and Banana Swinging arms fitted so it can be done and does look good.
