Hi again All

After nearly giving up I found a piston release tool on Ebay to remove the seized pistons from my RG250, took a few attempts but eventually freed up and removed the piston in one calliper (pretty usefull tool). On inspection the piston and calliper barrel were a lot worse than I was expecting.

the rusty looking gunk in the barrel seems to be slowly coming away when I use a tooth brush and WD40 and I was wondering if I could gently polish it clean with a dremel and soft pad? There are also a few pit marks on the piston which are clean and not rusted so maybe they have been pulled out carelessly before? Do you think these are salvageable or would the brake oil leak and it all be a waste of time? I have some feratan which I was going to use around the part of the piston that is outside the barrel to hopefull remove all the surface rust. Any suggestions would be massively appreciated.

i would probably bin the pistons and get a seal kit off fleabay, do the calipers have a dust cover like car caliper pistons?

A small brass wire brush is what I use on the grooves, (small Dremmel type) although yours don't look to 'furred up' from the pics.

Yes, once the piston is back in there is another seal that goes on like a dust seal. I'm going to buy a new seal kit but wondered if by cleaning off the rusty cylinders may cause the piston surface and cylinder not to mate properly and brake fluid leak past the new seals?. Thanks

I did my rgv a few days ago, drop them in a ultrasonic cleaner then get a scotch pad and give them a good going over, the part on the piston that's rusty I believe don't go past the seal, I think youll be ffine, but at the end of the day your the one riding it..
