Is this turning into the woefully inappropriate upgrades thread?

I dont think id stay on it long enough to need to worry about how long a rear tyre lasts! On the plus side i bet you never need a front tyre, it will never be on the floor!

PostPosted: Wed Aug 12, 2015 4:27 pm    Post subject: ETZ250 mods Reply with quote

Hi, I,m new here, but looking at major mods to my ETZ 250' which I wanf to use on the road as a cafe racer, rather than racing.
Two big things to do
1. Reed valve : Is there a thread on this forum (or anywhere )that shows just how this is done?
2. Exhaust : I' m going to fabricate an exhaust system that will unleash the true potential of these engines.

Would appreciate any guidance, reed valve procedure is the main thing.

Thanks

Things to do that make a difference that I can help you with:

1. Replace the heavy MZ piston with a Sukuki TS250 alternative ... much lighter gudgeon pin is straight fit
2. Shorten barrell top and bottom to match Suzuki piston crown and skirt lengths
3. Re port as necessary for (2)
4. Trim lots of weight off clutch ... preferably with alloy clutch outer
5. Reed valve ... can increase inlet opening time massively but need to know what you doing on porting. Use a 4 petal RD unit as that is good enough. Quite a bit of machining unfortunately

I'll send you my port map if that is helpful

Thanks for the information, some useful advice there, which I will follow. The port map would be even better, no substitute for experience!
Thank you.

No problem, trick is to get some more power while not sacrificing reliability and starting (the old chesnut for strokers) my setup gives a more exciting ride but no lap records. Boring the carb by 1mm is beneficial but better to go for an appropriate Mikuni if you can afford it.

I have fitted a Kart PVL ignition which has been brilliant but is not cheap. Run slightly retarded ignition from standard to start with and slowly advance until you get a good response.

I have boost ports which make a difference but a tricky machining task ...worth the effort

Pipe is all about maths but I have a generic dimension setup if you would like that. Message me your mail address.
