Diff'rent Strokers

Decided to pull the PE175 out of Reg and see if the GT200 would fit. I was starting to have my doubts. It certainly came apart much easier than it went together Very Happy

Looks pretty close and will fit in once I modify the top rear engine mount. The frame is 100mm wide and the lug on the motor is 105mm so I will cut the right hand top rear mount off and re-weld it in place once its located properly.

Once the rear mount is modded the front mounts will fit nicely. Even room for the right hand exhaust to clear the down tube. The motor is slightly offset in the RV frame.

I will be able to use the standard 112 link 520 chain which I’m happy about.

Angle grinder with a cutting disc tonight . . . .

Quick one tonight

Just cut the offending bracket and in it popped.

Threw the DR600 20 litre tank on top and it is going to work just fine . . . . . . . . I hope 😊

I went to get the ports measured and chambers designed before heading to Ian’s to get the chambers made. At the end of the measuring process we lifted the barrel off and found the motor had a small seizure, in both cylinders, at one stage. Most likely due to lack of oil.

It will need new pistons and rebore. Before the chambers will be made.

There were a lot of things that needs modifying on Reg so decided on a different tack with this bike, and put the PE175 motor back into Reg and use it as a display bike. . .

The good news is the GT200X5 will live again. . . . . .

A generous friend has given me this very nice TS175ER with no rear wheel, rusted through tank but if was free.

The plan is now to put the X5 motor in there, get it running then do a sweet big wheel conversion from there. This will require a new swingarm with jackshaft to house the fatter rear wheel

That TS is lovely, looks to be if fairly good condition too.

Those pistons might clean up? If the barrels are ok it could be worth a shot.

Some tuners say if a piston seizes on running in, just strip it, file off the high spots and go again Exclamation

Well after some time since I tried to re-engine Reg I have decided to leave him as a PE175 powered thing Very Happy

I am planning to start another build using the GT200 X5 Motor. I sold it to a mate, who didnt use it so I now have it back

As luck would have it I have located an X5 frame on Gumtree, which I will buy and then get creative.

Plans are still a little 'Work in Progress' but some possibilities are PE250 swingarm, or DR350. RM125 forks. will have a nice set of custom chamber fabricated by Ian @ Servalloy In Queensland

I will be a bit tied up for the next few weeks but come mid October I will be into it

Should I start a new thread???

Been too long since posting but getting back at it

Picking the X5 frame up in a few weeks along with the swingarm, which will be extended

I had a DR200 that will donate the complete front end, Rear wheel and electrics that I will adapt to suit the X5 motor

I have the chambers designed and will make some mock up ones out of Cardboard to work on where they run.

Either both down the Right hand side or down under and up behind the swingarm.

This was a mock up using a PE250 frame and at the time look close but needed a lot of coin to build using that as the basis.

Now I have the Dr200 I have most of the parts I neded to get it done. Using the X5 frame as its easier to register on the road

X5 Motor in the PE frame, DR600 tank 20Lt. It had a DRZ400 forks on however they were way too long

What a great story. Obvoiusly a lot of work and problem solving, but in a very good cause. Thanks for telling us about it.

Well a bit of an update.

Reg is getting a heart transplant and sadly moving to 4 stroke

Due to me not being able to kick start Reg I need an electric start.

In the old white DR200 a few post up I have a donor ready to go.

Think I will have about 4mm clearance to shoehorn the DR motor in.

I will have to cut out the middle of swingpivot as the DR mounts on the pivot.

I will update the progress if you are interested at all??

Things have been very slow on this build, however will get busier soon-ish Laughing

I've decided to cut the spine of frame having cut the bottom out as well.

Machining up a 40mm plug and weld back into give me clearance for the DR200 motor.

Also picked up a stock RV front guard

On the 2stroke front the X5 Dualsport has been accumulating parts too, but thats a dfifferent thread

I stopped the posting in this thread as Reg is now DR200 powered and I did fit a XL500S Paris Dakar tank to it as well.

Have you ever had bike parts just accumulate in the shed???

Well I seem to be collecting RV90 parts and building another silly bike called Russell.

I picked this up for $75 and it was probably a good deal. . . maybe not

Tried the PE motor in tehre, but maybe not Shocked

I had thought about a China motor like my mate Joe did.

Then I aquired another RV90 Frame and bits . . . .

Then Joe gave me an RV90 engine in parts with a crook selector fork, so now looking at rebuilding this motor . . . for the second frame

A mate Zac on another forum has a nice BW80 so its a bit of an inspiration. He actually found this thread last night Wink

I shall post more as I go. . . .

Great read.

Don't think I've ever seen a modified Suzuki RV in the UK, they're not very common here anyway. Wish I had learnt more engineering skills to adapt and machine different parts to fit other bikes.

Had a standard PE175 many years ago, bought from a bike magazine editor in the UK after the initial launch road test in their mag. It's a great little motor.

Looking forward to more updates.
