Try taking out the battery box so you've got more room to feed it in and wiggle it.

THE BATTERY BOX AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS OUT. ONLY THE ENGINE IS BACK IN THE FRAME! I GOT IT OUT SOME HOW BUT I'M STUMPED ON HOW TO GET IT BACK IN! I WONDER IF THE BOX COMES APART FOR EASE OF FITTING/REMOVING?
I'LL TRY AGAIN AT THE WEEKEND...

GOT THE AIRBOX BACK IN TODAY. IT DOESN'T COME APART EITHER. HAD TO CHISEL THE TOP LEFT FRONT MOUNTING LUG OFF TO GET IT IN. IT IS NOW MOUNTED WITH THE TWO OPPOSITE TOP LUGS ONLY. IT IS SECURE ENOUGH ONCE THE CARB INLETS ARE PUSHED IN. IT AINT GOIN ANYWHERE FOR A WHILE NOW!
STARTED RECONNECTING WIRING AND PUTTING BACK ON OTHER COMPONENTS AROUND AIRBOX AREA. NEW THROTTLE CABLE INTO CARBS AND OIL PUMP. LOOKING ALOT BETTER NOW. DO A LITTLE MORE NEXT WEEKEND...

Short of taking the barrels off, that was the only way to get it in!!
