Hi all... My water pump shaft is very pittted and will ruin the new seals if i keep using it..
Any ideas...?
i thought it was going to be so easy by ordering a new shaft for £118...
But all the sellers on ebay dont actually stock...

Are people going to start making them out of stainless steel..
A rgv250 shaft looks very similar..

many thanks
paul

Paul,

Unfortunately, the closest I've come to an RG125 is looking at the exploded views in a parts catalogue...and the photos you have posted.

The shaft looks the same in the parts catalogue as it does in your photo - can it be dismantled any further? Could you remake the shaft in its entirety? Could you machine back the pitted portion and press on a sleeve? Could you have the pitted areas welded up and machined back to standard size?

Parts catalogues show that the RG125, RG250 and RGV250 shafts all have the same form - different part numbers though. The RG250 uses the same shaft seal as the 125, if that is of any help.

I suppose it would be useful if someone could provide dimensions for the RG250 and RGV250 shafts - it may be possible to modify one of these to work in the 125.

Is your shaft 17510-01A01/02? If so, it is no longer available from Suzuki. However, some brief research suggests it was also used on the TS125X, which may expand horizons slightly if you are looking for a good secondhand one.

I'm not sure whether the foregoing is of any use to you - let us know if you make any progress.

Regards,
James

Good to see you had some luck Paul. Your picture suggests that the part is actually an 'assembly'...which may explain why it costs so much!

Is it possible to dismantle the assembly? More specifically, could you have dismantled your existing assembly, made a new shaft and put it back together again?

To install the new assembly, could it be pushed in by hand if the cover is heated in an oven (or perhaps even by a hot air gun)?

Hope you manage to get everything back together and working! Very Happy

Regards,
James

HI james....

Iv still not fitted it yet...

Iv got a engineer friend who is going to use a press to fit it...

And iv also ordered another shaft as a spare...

Robinsons suzuki only had 4 water pump shafts for sale and iv bought 2 of them......

Once iv used both these shafts up i will just turn the GAMMA into a museum piece in my front room.... To remind me of my mis-spent youth....

Take care

Paul

I feel a bit greedy.... iv got 2 water pump shafts...

There are only 2 more left in stock to buy..

They will never be made again....

But if they last 7 to 10 years each that will do me....

After that it will just be on display in my front room...
