This is my H-reg TZR250. It's a Reverse Cylinder model and is the SP variant (3MA-4). That means a dry clutch, close-ratio gearbox and various other upgrades from the normal 'R' model.

I bought it in Feb 2006 (I was supposed to be buying a 350LC but got distracted Confused). Since then it's made it to the RD/LC rally at Ashbourne and the VJMC Show at Lotherton Hall. And back. Very Happy

It was also on display on the first Diff'rent Strokers stand at the Stafford Show where it seemed to get an embarrassing amount of attention. Maybe that was because it's not quite right - the forks should be the fully-adjustable USD type and the fairing is an aftermarket race unit painted in the wrong colours. Embarassed But it's getting closer all the time. Wink

TZR ownership is a complicated business. Sad The more I find out about them, the less I actually know. Rolling Eyes My bike is alleged to have the mythical 'NZ' CDI box which gives the full 60bhp but I haven't been able to prove this one way or the other yet. Working on them is an overcomplicated nightmare too and they have a reputation for fragility. But it's worth it - nothing else looks or sounds this good. Cool

More details and pictures on my TZR page.

Now with added USD ! Cool

3XV forks with new seals and oil. 3XV spindle, bars and lower yoke/stem with 4DL top yoke. 3LN discs. 3MA-SP mudguard (had to make some little adaptor plates as holes didn't line up). New braided brakelines. Same front wheel and calipers as before (3MA-R ?). Who said 'Parts Bin Special' ? Mad Laughing

Come see it at the VJMC Uttoxeter Show and point out all the bits that aren't right... Wink

Erm, yes, it has been a while... Embarassed

Following the front-end swap, it failed it's MOT on dragging front brakes. It was put on display at Uttoxeter (this was the 2007 show !) where it was wheeled out in front of everyone and fired up for the 'sound-off'. Laughing

After the show, I convinced myself that some misalignment was causing the brake problem and spent ages pulling it apart, checking forks for straightness, refitting the calipers with tiny spacers and getting nowhere. I pulled the calipers completely apart and cleaned all the pistons and threw the outer dust seals away. It seemed OK but was difficult to test without a proper ride. Crying or Very sad

I got pissed off with it, months passed and I was distracted with my other bikes, but to cut a very long story short, I gave it a quick check over, took it for an MOT yesterday and it passed ! I celebrated by giving it a good thrapping down my local favourite back road. Thumbs Up

There's still a few little things to fix on it but it's back on the road where it belongs. So come on Karl, get yours rebuilt and let's start using 'em. Wink

Cheers

Fred.

Either your speakers or my crappy digital camera. Embarassed

It's a fine line between letting the bike warm up and fouling its plugs, or keeping the revs up. It'd been ticking over for a couple of minutes before that clip starts, but I had to edit out all the embarrassing interview bits. Laughing

7 months since it last ran. Rolling Eyes Where does the time go ? Confused

Fired it up on Friday, once I'd got a steady tickover I headed out to the bypass to warm it up. Don't like taking it in slow traffic 'cos it'll sulk and do its plugs. Got a nice test circuit that takes in a few roundabouts and a quiet country road that's like a rollercoaster. Very Happy Ran fine, I need to use it more.

I agree - if you leave them in the garage too long they do sulk - need to get them out fairly often to keep them happy

Erm, yes. I haven't though. Embarassed I did ride it to the 2-stroke day at Squires Caff in July, where it embarrassed itself in the car park. Rode home again fine though. Then I let the MOT run out.

It was on show in November at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC, and though it was fired up there it wasn't happy. Eventually I traced the problems to a duff battery (and a lying Optimate) and with a new one fitted all was well.

And this morning it got a new MOT. Very Happy S'pose I ought to tax it then...
