Right Gents

I ask this with trepidation, exactly what is the story with the 3XV crank, I recall from the tzr site and here that there is a problem rebuilding if a journal is damaged, mostly when a bearing has failed, now, can new bearings be installed, the bike is still running, but has developed a weird vibration, although it does come and go and is not constant I would rather take preventative steps. After reading a few other threads and the trouble and expense finding replacement cranks I would rather rip it out now and overhaul if possible. I suspect I need new crank seals anyway.

Info would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Crank;

I was able to rebuild a 3ma crank in SA the guys place is called cr3 engineering in Germiston. It did cost me R6000 and the crank is working fine. Unfortunately the 3xv I havent done yet but suspect a rebuild in about 3000km then she will hit 50 000 km. You dont need the oem ball bearings to do a rebuild with some research you can get away fairly cheap. I did my crank with oem parts. I would have saved R2000 if I bought bearings from a local suppier.

Have you phoned Yamaha to check if they still have the sub assembly's? You may be surprised.

Edd

I think the general consensus was that it can't be rebuilt, has to do with the journals being part of the webs? Wullie has also had an expensive failure with a rebuilt crank.. (think he had the journal sleeved or something)
