And people seem to be asking more and more for ar wheels now, there was a lot being sold abroad for good money as the bikes in certain countries only came with wire wheels! Could you imagine an ar with wire wheels?
If you had wire wheels on your ar and found out people in russia were running around on an ar with nice alloys im sure you would do your best to get some!
But i would restore too! Are you doing a 50, 80 or 125? _________________ Gagging for it |

Iv got erm shall we say ongoing ar80 project (4 years now) its recently been stripped and all the black bits painted and wheels redone in red, but then i got my hands on a ysr and my attention has turned to that as iv wanted one for far too long, i needed a gag bike that much that i was going to turn the ar into a flat track style gag bike, but i wont have to now!
So how is the ar build going? _________________ Gagging for it |

well to be quite honest it has not started yet.
i have never done a rebuild before.. i'm looking to get all the parts i need before i begin. only thing left to obtain is a ar125 barrel.. i am looking to get the motor started before i continue
soon as i get the barrel i am looking to get it on the road before winter hits to try it out..
cold nights are looming so time in the garage with the heater on may be needed. _________________ Current bikes

Good plan, make sure everything is ok first then fully strip and restore it!
Just make sure your methodical and label everything! Put all engine bolts in one ice cream tub and all fairing bolts in another etc and take lots of photos, i know it all probably seems a bit much or even obvious but it really really helps, trust me on this, i made the mistake once and never again!
And if your going for any powder coating put bolts in any threaded holes!
Its all these little things that make a huge difference!
Also one other tip, when de rusting metal, dont just attack it with abrasives first, you can make a very easy rust remover using some household or easy to obtain stuff that will remove the rust and actually convert some of it back into steel again its the same process as anodising. I can go into more detail if you want or just buy practical sports bikes magazine they do articles like that all the time. _________________ Gagging for it |

Its a cracking magazine i cant wait for it to come out! I even have the coveted first issue lol
And its always handy to know more engineering guys! Im looking to have a fork brace made for my ysr but thats going to be a while yet!
Its only just on its wheels although the tzr 125 engine is sitting nicely too
Just cant wait to see what it goes like! The bike weighs less than me _________________ Gagging for it |

Unbelievable prices for AR wheels. Some of the other parts are fetching silly money too especially plastics.
All it's doing is taking them off the road as people buy a bike for a few hundred and then break to more than double their money.
Really pleased your rebuilding yours TNG _________________ We are where we are... |

£100 for a barrel?
If its in really good condition that seems like a going rate
(Steep but then all the AR parts are going through the roof..)
But. . .
Before you commit, have you checked the rest of your engine?
Assuming bottom end is ok, are you intending to use the existing piston and is it standard size?
The barrel you are considering . . . Is this standard or as it been rebored?
If you need to buy a new piston / rings to suit the barrel OR if the barrel needs a reborn you will be looking at additional cost etc
The barrel on eBay also seems steep at £159 inc post (£10) but this comes with gasket set (£10), piston and rings etc (£20) and this has been rebored so maybe not in true terms?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KAWASAKI-AR-125-BARREL-AND-PISTON-KIT-/261100031910?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3ccac64fa6
Alternatively, I have a barrel you can have for free but it needs one of the exhaust bolt holes welding and also needs a rebore. Unless your engineering company can do this for nothing then the likely cost to do the specialist CI welding (£20) and rebore (£30-40) and new piston kit (£20) and gaskets (£10) so will probably cost you nearly £100 with this option too..
Choices choices...
I will keep an eye out for a good barrel and let you know if I find one ok

the bottom end on the bike is actually in good con thankfully
i was thinking of just getting that kit, but it seemed costly.
i can weld anything as long as its not aluminum too. most things made from steel or even plastics is fixable in some way. with the resources i have at hand i am confident i could fix it be honest but i would like to give you some cash for it or at least offer my services
anyway do messages work on this site? we can swap contacts? _________________ Current bikes
