I understood completely!,

And im sorry for my mistake, either i read your post to quickly or typed mine too quickly!

Need to find some really big trees to park it near to get some photos as its still a little enough bike Laughing

Just before i got a gag i was actually seriously tempted to turn the ar into a gagsize flattracker with some smaller wheels because the frames are not much bigger than a gags!

Have you read any of the old two stroke tuning books? Some of the info is dated but there is one hell of alot of very useful info in them and if your a bit technical makes for some really good idle reading!

Haven't got any tuning books other than old ones for cars such as tuning A B series engines and SU / weber carbs etc

Most of the two stroke stuff I've either learned from people, the Internet or... Erm... Oooops... Trial and trial again Laughing

I am interested though... So if you only had ONE two stroke tuning book, the one you could never part with? The absolute bible for all things ring a ding? Which one would it be? Question

Like you Shaun, I learnt most of my mechanic skills from other people, mainly my brother Very Happy Or trial & error on my own bikes Rolling Eyes

Then about 12 years ago I did a motorcycle mechanics C&G course.

But tuning is still a black art to me.

However, the one book that always springs to mind is (I think its called) Performance tuning (?) by A. Graham Bell. Who I believe also invented the PERFORMANCE TELEPHONE Laughing

Only joking, but its because of Alexander Graham Bell, I remember the name of the book.

Ok really I meant this one :-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Two-stroke-Performance-Tuning-Graham-Bell/dp/1859606199

Looks like the sort of thing I'm after.. Good reviews and guess what?

Others that looked at this on amazon also bought "tuning A series engines by David Vizard"

Priceless Not Worthy Thumbs Up

... I am sad at times Cool

Thats the book im reading at the moment! It is technical and old! But alot of the things are still very relevant, especially just to modify your two stroke to get what it should have been out of it, like matching transfer ports and just getting optimum flow into the engine not really tuning that bit but more a tidy up!
Its really easy to get a copy in pdf form on the internet just type the name of the book followed by pdf into you favorite search engine.
It goes into some real dark art things too like making exhausts tuned to your bike!
I found it really interesting but i do have an unhealthy obsession with making little bikes quick!
I forget the name of the first book i read but it was very similar
Get a copy and let me know what you think, i reckon you will be itching to give some of the basic stuff a go!

I will get a copy and we can trade notes Wink

To be fair with the ARs I've been playing around, matching cases to barrels, flowing disk valve inlets, tuning the barrels, changing the timing and compression / squish etc and generally having some fun.

I've also had work done by Mick Abbey who I have to say is a top guy (he still has my AR race engine to finish... C'mon mick if you read this .. Stop gassing!! Lol)

And I've still got a barrel / head with Lozza at Thetwostroke Institute in Austrailia as he reckons it will be a flyer - well it ain't moving very fast at the minute Lozza.. My engines are better than yours !! Laughing

All in all great fun.
I need a proper lathe and something better than a dremel and I will be over the moon... Are you listening Santa (fat chance!)
Shaun

I think you will enjoy the book!
It goes into some real detail even down to the different types of piston rings to use!
One thing i found interesting was about little end bearing cages and what to do if you have them breaking up which i had a problem with on my old ts50!
If only i had read the book then Razz
As i said some of it is technical but i think youll be fine Laughing
