Thinking I was on the home stretch but my rotted out tank had other ideas. Another tank would have to be found in Japan and the prices landed put that at about $400 and up for a tank that may be no better than what I have. So major surgery was conducted today with both the inside and outside skin on the left side cut out and replaced and all other pin holes welded up. Now she is water tight so a liner will be put in as the good steel is pretty well on its last legs too and then off to get painted.

I've been recommended to use this as opposed to welding

There was no way anything was going to seal my tank without some patch work, I had one hole that I stuck a screw driver straight through both sides of my tank . Shocked

For weepy tanks or making fibre glass Ethanol resistant I can recommend Causewell sealer with great success. Not suitable for gaping holes, its like molten Araldite and is hard as rock. Not cheap (from US) but very effective.

Got the bodywork back today and old mate did a good job. I went the original black/ green colour and it looks great in the sun. This bike is now ready as soon as I fit the bodywork and buy a chain. I bought the bike just before last Christmas and it looks like I will be riding it for this Christmas, Very Happy

Getting closer although it looks like the gasket in the float bowl is not sealing.

Took a sneaky spin up the road today since I fitted the new fuel tap to stop one fuel leak. Went OK considering I didn't have a battery to fit the bike, made power delivery interesting. A mate thinks he has a battery to fit so all will be well soon. Going to get it registered in the next week.
