The wife's SDR needs a new rear shock. Unless it can be rebuilt ? Got no damping whatsoever.

Anyone know if it shares the part with any other models ? Part number suggests it's unique to SDR. Crying or Very sad

Anyone got a brand new spare one sat on a shelf ? Laughing

Any aftermarket stuff available ?

Hi Tim,
I have heard/read that it is the same as a tzr250 poss 1KT but never had it confirmed. could do with putting one side by side if anyone has a spare 1KT laying about?

Post a picture with some some sizes such as the length overall and centre to centre and also diameter at widest points (clearance) if you can.. I've been lucky matching different model shocks to get a fit on my bikes so will have a search round Surprised

Hi,
There is only one shock bolt on... Yamaha TZ 125 94/2001
I ride a modified Aprilia rs 125 schock, the only one you can fit without big modification.
The lenght is 285mm
Quite a bit work to do...
enlarge the down fixation (fork make 30 mm width on Aprilia, and 40 on SDR)...
And increase the width of the eye fix on top from 30mm to 40mm
Another mistake... the frame has to be filed, to accept the bigger diameter of the eye-fix on top...

Gave the SDR to a mate of mine to sort a few jobs on it. Just got it back. He's :

- sourced and fitted a new rear shock, an aftermarket Aprilia AF1 125 item, brand-new, £60. It needed a couple of small spacers making up but otherwise was a bolt on job. Excuse the crap photos.
- fitted new seals and heavier oil in the forks.
- fully stripped and cleaned the front and rear calipers, new brakefluid and new front pads.
- replaced the damaged subframe with another one, so that the seat fastens and locks on properly now.
- pulled a nasty dent out of the silencer and resprayed it.

Now MOT'd and taxed again. It still looks 'used' but this was about making it right mechanically not cosmetically. Though he couldn't resist polishing the tarnished frame rails. Smile

Quite coincidently I have been looking about for rear shocks for the sdr and I regularly look on yamahasdr200.com Japanese blog and shop site. They claim that YSS shocks list one for the sdr. I had a look at YSS website and they are based in Thailand but have dealers worldwide. They do list a shock specifically for sdr which has preload and compression damping and I contacted a dealer in the uk and he can do one for £259.00 all in with postage etc. not cheap but available. Let us know how the aprillia one performs and maybe some part numbers and install pics etc that might be the way to go

There's no adjustment of any kind on the £60 shock and I've not ridden it yet, but it's feels right and is better than the leaky undamped one that was on before...

Brilliant! Keep us updated I may have to try one. What oil and quantities did you settle on for the forks. I would imagine I'm a little heavier than your good lady but need to do something with my front end
