As some of you may know i recently purchased a cpi gtr......... No i didnt know what it was either, but it was cheap and i should of known better but any way.....

It was a none runner but with a quick squirt of som wd and a few other checks she fired so i took it ( not a she yet untill i stop swearing at it) home.

Anyway iv started a small part of the strip down first up was exhaust off and oh no what this? It was full of water .... Not a good start

Next up top end off seems ok ish here obviously had a blow up at some pount in its indicated 6000miles judging by the go faster gouges in the cylinder head but nothing exceptionally drastic anywhere else. But water was here too so maybe a bit more worried!

Tipped the whole bike up on its front with the help of my assistant, bodywork is pretty much shagged so wasnt worried about that, its been carefully looked after by several 16 year olds so what bolts were used didnt match and cable ties were used where lugs were snapped!

Now the water is out of the bottom end too!

I thought id better remove the water pump as the water has goy in somewhere but the pump doesnt actually but up to the engine, its driven off of the flywheel, clever design but it means the water probably came in through the head gasket. Anyway i looked at the pump and as much as it hasnt been letting water into the engine, it has been pissing water out from everywhere else so a quick strip was done, also found play in the bearings, and this is where i found out the full scale of the bodgery that this poor ped has suffered! Ill get pics up soon so you can see but it looks like where the shaft has been hammered out so hard previousle the shaft was deformed the attempted to be filed round again! Wonder why the seal and bearings were knackered!

Just means a more thorough inspection is needed, i hope to god the never opened the engine up!

But that is not all oh no, now i need a water pump repair kit and do you think one exists? Not that i can find! So its off the the engineers having an impellor shaft one off made then to the bearing and seal suppliers for new buts there too!

Ill keep you all up to date on the extreme bodgery as i find and fix it!

Unfortunately theres no fixing the panels so im thinking of just running it as a shed ped!

It's a shame it's been so badly bodged, but the investigation and (hopefully) recovery sound fun. I do quite lile finding other peoples mistakes and then sorting them out. At the moment, on the KH, the mistakes I'm finding are my own!

It is quite satisfying but bloody annoying at the same time.

Looking like it needs a new barrel too now, its got a fairly new piston so im guessing it went bang and they have tried just throwing a piston in, ill get photos up with and without bodywork and get some verdicts! Im quite liking the naked look!

Is it wrong im actually looking foward to sitting out in the sun with a soldering iron, wire, heatshrink and a box of proper terminals!

Yup know of them and can get some suprisingly quick scooters with the right bits now, but my engine is loosly based on these engines and i wont be sure if bits fit untill i buy them and try them! Could be an expensive way to do it!

Theres also the likes of pm tuning that do alot of bolt on goodies, they do a top end for the am6 engine found in the rs50 and others that has the potential to push 20bhp!

And the 125 tuning is even crazier, there is another company that sell a kit to space out your existing crancases and put another cylinder in! Two stroke tuning is thankfully very much alive and getting more and more mental!

About 3500 euros though!

But if you used that on a 20 bhp 50cc set up you must be looking at a 30bhp plus moped, and if you had that set up on a 30bhp 183 moped you would be looking at at least a 50bhp scooter!

Honestly ts they do some mad mad kits now, found out today they are pushing in excess of 30 brake from 95cc big bore kits for things the aerox, imagine doubling that up and having a nearly 60 hp moped!

If i had the money i so would, but id throw the engine in something like an old melody or a suzuki streetmagic, that would be proper ace!

Im thinking about it too much now ts and its all your fault lol

Just dont start looking into it too much ts, it looks really tempting!

Buy a gilers runner 125 two stroke, spend some money at pm tuning and not even that much really, and go to santa pod and they put you next to a 600 for a fair quarter run!

Gilera did a 180 too but it doesnt tune as well? Apparently not as much primary compression? Iv always fancied a ped that would smash a porsche!

As i say just dont start looking into it, its a slippery slope Shocked

Well now things get a bit interesting, iv realised why the last guy re used the head gasket, its because you cant buy them!

Now i have 5 options

Re use the re used head gasket!
Make a new head gasket out of thin copper sheet
Get o ring grooves machined into the head
Aftermarket cylinder and head kit
Scrap it

Obviously i cant re use it,
Anyone got some thin copper sheet?
Supposed to be a budget build so dont fancy machining costs when the head has damage anyway
And again supposed to be budget so new top end out of the question, especially as i dont know the condition of the bottom end and no doubt parts for that will be tricky
And im far too stubborn to be beaten by a cheap moped

Looks like ill be trying my hand at making a head gasket,
Ill let you know how it goes!

I've used cereal boxes with threebond a few times.. Just watch the squish as Kellogg's boxes are quite thick.. May be better with cheaper Tesco own brand boxes.. Haha

Oh erm..um... Ok more seriously

This is better..
