The rear calliper has been a right b*gger to sort out. The new pistons didn't have enough of a lead in to engage in the seals and tried to push the seal out of the groove. I've had to put a rounded edge on the base of the pistons to get them to engage properly. I think the seals are fractionally bigger than the old ones which makes things worse.

It's together and working OK I think but I'll have to see what it's like in use.

My mind has been wandering a little today, wondering what the Honda might look like when it’s finished, and trying to settle on a colour scheme. The special will use the Honda MT50 frame, Aprilia RS50 wheels, suspension, brakes, tank and seat unit, with a hybrid Honda SS50/Chinese clone engine.

This wandering mind isn’t as pointless as it first seems. Pretty soon I’ll need to get the wheels stripped and repainted, so I need to decide what colour to do them. Dark grey is the obvious choice, easy to look after and they do look quite nice, but I’ve been fancying white, and I know that’ll please Strokerboy. The wheels are one of the main reasons I chose the RS50 as a donor, they look modern, and I’d like them to stand out.

My first thought on the overall colour scheme was to paint it all a metallic mid-blue, rather like the 900 Hornet I had years ago. The only reasoning being that the MT50 V5 says the bike is blue, and one colour might be cheap and easy. This doesn’t work well with white wheels though, the blue is just too sensible for that sort of thing.

So searching for inspiration I was randomly scanning through images of Hondas of all sorts on Google when I was reminded how good the NC30 looks in HRC Red, White and Blue, with white wheels.

I wondered if I could do an HRC inspired colour scheme on the Honda special. Now I’m no artistic designer, but I’ve had a go at sketching the colour scheme out.

Drawing by Karl, aged 6, what do you think?

I think the poll on paint schemes for my Ns125 favoured Rothmans?

The nc30 is a beautiful bike in the red/white/blue, the nc30 is a beautiful bike full stop, it's just the engine wot is wrong like Drunk

Can't actually think of another Honda paint scheme that stands out?

S'pose modern Honda colour schemes have all been Repsol, and that's not what I'm after.

Repsol isn't bad but not for me, must be my age.
Fag packet paint schemes were brilliant but if it was a Suzuki, I would say Pepsi as an alternative to the evil weed.

Did Durex sponsor Honda?

The new Chinese clocks have come for the project today. Very Happy I like the Aprilia Clocks but they're just the wrong shape to work with the Derbi headlight and flyscreen.

Idiot lights across the top for Left, Right, Neutral, Charge, Beam, Fuel and Temperature. LCD Gear Position Indicator, MPH or KMH, and as is always the way with Chinese stuff, loads of different coloured back lights! There's a clock too.

Should be small enough to fit behind my Derbi Headlight and screen.

been looking at one of these for my build.
be interested to see how it all goes together.

The dash is an eBay purchase, there are two of this type to choose from, one with separate idiot lights for each gear position, and this one with an LCD number indication of gear position. I selected this one because it fits the gap between the top yoke and the headlight fly screen.

It comes with wiring instructions, I think the rev counter picks up from the generator ignition pick-up but haven't looked in to it much yet. It comes with a connector shell and new crimp pins for the bike end of the wiring loom. There's a pick-up to fasten to the front wheel, or it will work with modern wheel speed sensors. You set the rolling circumferance of the wheel on the setup format, and the number of pulses you expect each full wheel revolution.

There are several other digital dashes available on eBay, some are a bit 80's stereo, but some are quite stylish. They're all cheap, and all Chinese. Except for the expensive ones that aren't Chinese.
