Diff'rent Strokers

Hi Guys n Gals,

just thought I'd say hello to all those who love strokers, and who doesn't?

Anyway I usually ride Yamaha XT225 & XT250 Serows but after we lost mum back in September last year, we decided that dad needed something to focus on and that's become a 1986 Kawasaki AR125. Dad used to race many years ago but as usual family life took precedence. He has a passion for strokers and we knew that would be something that he could concentrate on.

We managed to source his AR125 very easily and rather than to restore it into standard trim, he decided that the bike would become a project, with the goal to result in a road legal bike, with the looks of a classic 'tiddler racer'. The project has got off to a good start, in that we got the bike running really quickly, before stripping her down for cleaning/degreasing etc.

We've ordered replacement rearset footrests from Japan, which are expected to arrive towards the end in September and some beautiful endurance 'Suzuka' style clip-ons, which were ordered from Wales and arrived the next day!

We're looking for a replacement fairing, tank and seat unit and enjoy the experience of trolling through the online catalogues/Ebay etc.

As this ongoing project is making progress, I also found another AR125, which is due for delivery on Thursday and I plan to build that into almost standard trim, apart from the paint scheme, which I've yet to decide on.

So a big hello to all and can I apologise in advance for any stupid questions tha i ask? They say there's no such thing as a stupid question but you haven't heard mine yet.

Welcome to DS and good luck with your projects, I'm sure we all look forward to seeing how you get on, and to seeing some pictures of progress. There are some very knowledgeable AR people on here who will be happy to help.

Hi Reggie, thanks for asking sbout my white AR . It is deliberately a mk1 and mk2 hybrid. I offered up all sorts of panels before I settled on this one. Needed to look simple / almost period standard but when you look closer almost every part is different. Keeps to the AR DNA with a little added attitude that's not too everyone's taste..but for me it works too Smile

Decals are kawasaki A1 (genuine original tank and tail) and A3 (side panels and front fairing), belly pan is B2/A3. Crash bungs are from ZXR adapted to fit using B3/A4 front fairing bracket.

Every model of AR125 ever made has a part in the White bike Smile

thanks for the info, most helpful.

I reckon the white hybrid scheme is the best I've seen so far.

Just starting to investigate options and who knows what we'll end up with on both our project bikes!

cheers matey, tomorrow late afternoon or early evening is when I get my first sight of my AR125. To say I'm excited is a bit of an understatement!

Let's hope there's not too much missing, or needs replacing.

Oooh I hate waiting for bikes to turn up, its like waiting for an item you're bidding on to end on ebay Pray

Can't remember if I've welcomed you Reggie, so if not then welcome.

Looking forward to seeing the bike, I would love an AR125 but I have far too many 125's at the moment.

TS is the forum expert on the AR's so he'll be able to answer any questions you have, no pressure then TS Laughing
