Let me know when you're on the road! Just got the engine in bits on the sdr as the head gasket went but I opened a can of worms when I took it apart!

It did the head gasket and I decided to pull motor out over winter. Opened a can of worms! Turns out it had wrong piston in it. Found out it had an early dt200 piston with holes in the back of the piston for barrel induction. The sdr has crankcase induction and so the piston should be solid round th back. Also it was on second oversize so it's obviously never been thrashed! I found a later dt200 piston at second oversize in France on eBay, genuine piston £35 got some rings coming this week. Sent barrel down to ace in Bradford they have glaze busted it as the barrel and piston were ok just wrong. Just had the cases vapor blasted and been polishing tonight. Should be ready to go back
Together in next couple of weeks. Most expensive head gasket I've done!

Probably cost verses no availability
Suppose everything is obtainable if you can wait!

well its been a while since i updated this so...
It seems that this bike is determined not to be ridden on the road.
When it went on the rolling road at the tuners it turned out that the bike wouldn't rev out . we suspected possibly a blocked carb so ordered a larger one from eBay.
Then i had to source an inlet manifold to fit the new carb Eventually i found a place in France that said they had one in stock on their website.
Anyway after a month waiting for the manifold they said that they didn't actually have stock and were waiting for the manufacturer to make up a new batch. aargh!! .
So i cancelled that order and got one from Holland, only to find that the carb and manifold didn't bloody fit as it was touching the frame.
In the meantime i had cured the revving problem anyway by fitting an aftermarket c.d.i.
Back to the tuners it went (the tuner had now moved premises which meant a 150 mile round trip)
All was good on the rolling road and 14bhp was seen on the dyno.
So now for a blast on the road... i managed about a mile before the engine seized.. Bollocks . I took it back home and stripped it. I found that the engine i bought from Holland had been fitted with the wrong piston which was too tight in the bore and had had a cold seize due to different metal expansion rates.
i thought sod it , in for a penny , in for a pound and ordered a mallossi big bore kit from the same place in France that messed me around with the inlet ,as they said they definately had stock of the kit.
After 2 weeks of waiting and no sign of the kit i contacted them only to find they actually hadn't got the kit but had ordered it from Mallossi who were now on their annual month long August summer holliday.
So a new delivery date for the part was given for 15th september which actually arrived on the 20th september.
Happy days ..i got into the garage fit the new piston and cylinder . Well i say fit the cylinder... i broke a fecking piston ring doing it ,so am now waiting for a new set of rings.
I have upped my life insurance now as i expect to be run over by a double decker bus on the first proper day out on the bike.
