Hi Guys n Gals,

sometimes a bike puts up a bit of a fight, when being worked upon but my AR50's being a joy to tinker with.

I've just spent an hour in the garage and found that after I'd stripped down the carb again (as it kept dribbling from the overflow), that it went straight back in, the bike started on the second kick, and she soon settled down to a steady tick over, without a single drop from the overflow. Yippee, an easy fix.

I removed the chain guard (which isn't OEM), followed by the chain and the left hand foot peg came off with ease.

A liberal spray of WG-40 was applied and the bike left soaking it up.

I wish other bikes were this easy to tinker with.

I'm wondering if DS would accept her onto the stand for next years Stafford, as I reckon she'll be complete by then?

I'm sure Tim will do the usual shout out if DS keep the stand going (I hope so!!).. Not sure if they had AR50 on there before, but I could be wrong Wink

We've not had an AR50 before. We had Andy's AR80 at Stafford in 2011. It'd be great to have it Reggie, get it sorted and remind me nearer the time (otherwise I'll forget you offered it). Rolling Eyes

Going through the archives and found this quote from 2011...is it really that long ago?

"We intend to re-visit this theme in the future sometime, where there'll also be an AR50 and KR250S on show... "

Looks like Tim made a prediction and your tiddler AR50 will be most welcome, now for that KR250S...hmmm Wink

Hi Guys n Gals,

just more spraying with WD-40 etc at the moment t, until I've finished some exams with the CAA, and normal service will then return.

Managed to source a nose fairing mounting kit from Portugal, so that's another tick to the list.

Hi Guys n Gals,

well my AR50's now been fully stripped down to a naked chassis. There's no damage to the frame, just light surface rusting and minor scratches but she needs to be re-coated. I'm going to leave the weird late 80's early 90's plastics and tank in the Sunbeam read but I really need to do something with the frame, fork legs, swinging arm and rear shock spring!

So my powder coating options are;

1, do the framework, fork legs in the original gloss black, and do the swinging arm in the same gold as my AR125's swinging arm.

2, do the framework, fork legs and swinging arm all in the above gold.

3, do all the chassis parts white, so could accept a future change of tank and plastics colours to a Kawasaki green.

4, something else you guys may think of.

So what do you lot reckon then?

How about the metallic grey used by Fazey on his lovely AR125?

Hi
Just read and looked over your pictures, looks very nice, I do like the green options on the colour even thou my is black.
You can still buy quite a few bits from Kawasaki, and I am sure Phil would help if you need harder to find bits, if not let me know what you are looking for and I will have a dig around in the garage.

If you put the micron on I would buy a AR80 carb or buy the delorto kit from BDK, it makes a massive difference, and this will then lead to the reed block, you.can still get the reeds from USA

Other things to think about is the clutch and the correct oil, have a look for PJ1
If the air box is drilled it might have been tuned, seen this a few times

Regards
Sean

Hi Sean,

I must admit that my fave scheme is green but she's Sunbeam Red at the moment and, by tomorrow, we should know if the painter has been able to save the original red tank, and decals.

If so then she'll be staying red, the frame will be black, the swinging arm gold and the spring black.

If he's not successful with the pair, then I reckon she'll be going green!

My initial plan is to get her up and running as a normal AR50, complete with all the body and chassis work finished, then after running for a while I may consider upgrades.

I'll tell you what I can't find in an OEM nose fairing, irrespective of it's colour, as every single one I've found on E-bay has been mullered. I've got the full mounting kit, trim strips and inner finishing panel etc but not the fairing itself! At this rate I may need to go with an after-market option!
