Thought I'd look into this more now so that it doesn't hold me up later on. My bike has the french ownership document (V5 equivalent). Reading the V55/5 application form to register it it says that the original certificate should be sent off. If the original certificate is not present then a dating certificate from the manufacturer is required. OK, so I'll have no problem dating it then....however there is a lot of information required in the form and it constantly asks you to refer to the Certificate of Conformity. Things like Type? Variant? Version? Width of vehicle?

So my question to anyone who may have gone through this is: is the certificate of Conformity essential to complete this form?

If it is over ten years old it is exempt from type approval, you need v355/5 leaflet to help fill in the form. Remember this form is for all vehicles so there is not a lot to fill in for a motocycle.

Do you have another motorcycle V5? You are basically filling in your own V5 so copy the sections from a V5. You have to fill in very little on the form. As mentioned above, write in the type approval section "over 10 years old".

Both good answers, thanks guys. I do have the V355/5 explanation leaflet and a V5 for my trusty SV and your right there isn't that much to transfer over.

Yeah I noted the "over 10 years old" bit. I am exploring this rather early on as I just have a bare frame to build up at the moment but a lot of the rest of the bike has been refurbed so best to do a bit "horizon scanning" so there's no nasty surprises Thumbs Up
