they pics are a blast from the past.
basically back then the Ar really couldn't keep up with the rest of the pack.
so you made it stand out with a pleasant colour scheme. |

had a good look in the garage and cellar area.
found the following
[img]
forgot i had a micron for the AR in really good nick- but if i remember back in didn't fuel correctly.
the new parts been stored for a few years - bought from Z- power.
[/img]
a bonus was finding a really good side panel
i have another but that needs painted and new transfers, deal with that later
bad news have a back cowling but wrong colour and broken- need to think about that one.
yes there is another 3 wheels all different colours.
weather is crap in Glasgow- i don't want to take the car outside the garage, fair weather biker.
next step is clearing the bench and looking at the engine, probably needs a full rebuild rather than a top end. |

Well you will definitely generate funds with the wheels!
And ts is definately the ar man, he makes me so envious with his toys!
He even has 1 more running ysr than i have lol
Looks like it will be an interesting project, and i appreciate why tour going standard but agree it would be nice to give it a bit more pep! Just my tuppence worth! _________________ Gagging for it |

Great stuff !
You did really well finding the NOS tank and headlight fairing.. That alone would make me want to keep original colour scheme ...and almost all the early ARs are white and red.. With silver versions being almost extinct in good condition.
I think I've got some silver side panels (but I will need to look, may not be any better than yours..) you never know they could be new
I also have the silver headlight fairing ... But unfortunately not a NOS tail fairing in Silver.. So that will need some searching out or matching up. At least the painter should be able to get a good match if that's what's needed. White ones are a right tw@t as the new panels naturally discolour with age..
I'm sure I have a new tail flap and lock set, again will have to search them out. May even have the gold decal for the flap
I'm happy to help people do their ARs as long as they don't just break them or sell them straight away (been disappointed in the past a few times when I've given new parts away only to see the bikes get sold on for a profit ...grrrr) _________________ We are where we are... |

It was both a stroke of brilliance.. and also a real shame KHI made the restricted AR such a difficult machine (for a spotty teenager in the 80s) to properly de-restrict.
When others where just opening power valves and removing exhaust washers.. To get an A model AR.. the B needed a host of upgrades.
Of course in restricted trim, the B was probably the fastest learner 125 you could buy, a proper sized bike with good suspension and brakes.
I'm biased of course.. But it's really not hard to get good power out of the B model if you know what your doing. Easily making it as quick as the RD/RG/MBX of the day.
The micron was only really designed for the B model. I can give you the jetting to make it work better if that's the exhaust you choose to use. You can also shorten the stinger in the end pipe to make it work better with the A model spec ..
Finding a good Mk1 A model exhaust can be a massive challenge if you don't have one. I have a friend who may be able to help with one that looks almost identical to the KHI version though with better power.
Really looking forward to the rebuild. Ask away and I will do what I can to help ok

T-S
who do you recommend for a full rebuild of the engine.
Tuning:
oh the number of dark night s in wet garages playing about with disc valves - jets, carbs, K/N filters, Exhausts. Big Bore kits, been there, i don't need the extra BHP.
Best Power:
BDK supplied the big bore kit and tuned head, the power nearly 30bhp.
rejetted and drill carb - A1 oil pump - cut disc and clipped reeds.
going back to maybe 1988 - so a abit hazey.
it didn't last long 4 months |

Engine rebuild - I don't know anyone in Scotland
Furthest north I would trust is Mick Abbey based in Harrogate
He used to trade out of a garage at the side of a pub (Knox Inn) but he has moved to another unit. The website has the address and his mobile listed.

Like you, I'm not bothered about 'balls out' tuning nowadays.. Not for general road use anyway. But then again I have the whole spectrum with my bikes, mild to total grenade..lol
As long as they are sympathetically tuned to a stage not too far from A model they run reliably for years. It's the candle burning brighter for half as long again.

Sorry Folks
Went in a different direction for the last year.
a Bmw F650 came along and its brilliant.
I needed to get my RX7 up and running , that was a drain on time and money.
New job etc.
but here we go
bike stripped and frame primed.
(powder coating it yellow in the 80's - means no rust) just an etch and 4 coats of prime.
the Swingarm given the same treatment
Do the bushes in the swingarm rotate?
Do i need to change them??
cheers Brew |

Swingarm bushes don't move. If yours are good don't touch them. |

Hi Ninjax,
the only reason I've bought replacements is because I'll be having my swinging arm powder coated, so it'll leave a better finish and at £88.00 a pair, it's not a cheap job! _________________ Kindest regards

Thx for the help folks,
Swingarm now getting painted Cashmere Rover Gold. ( again info on this great forum).
Frame getting the standard gloss black finish.
thinking ahead on the Wheels.
i have a front gold one (which is the color i want).
and a red rear and green rear. anybody want to swap?
Could i transform one of these into the gold finish by painting.
My local powdercoater can't get the factory finish !!.
He just wants to paint them all gold, nothing like OEM. |

Build update:
progress has been slow due to other projects : Funduro 650
i will get a few pictures up over the next few days.
Can i ask you guys a few niggly questions that is slowing the build.
(remember this Ar has been in boxes since the 90s) so forgot about a few bits.
What brackets connects to the coolant reservoir ( see arrow) i can't find a drawing or schematic of the connecting bracket.
Second question is what screws into the following hole on the frame. Damned if i can remember
cheers
