Thanks, but I really don't think I can claim that any sort of "plan" is coming together, but I love it all the same!
I think I can take a deep breath, get the angle grinder out, and cut the twin-shock mounts off now. _________________ Light is right. |

That is really looking the part
Don't know about anyone else but I would not know where to start on mono-shocking a bike & I definitely wouldn't trust my welding skills
Full marks fella |

Finished my new rear shock bottom bush today.
Two sintered bronze top-hat bushes and a silver-steel centre bush to take the M12 bolt in the linkage.
Now I need to get on with the new top mount for the frame. _________________ Light is right. |

I haven't done much in the last week, so I've just been thinking what I still have to do...
Rear Shock top mount to make and weld in to the frame.
Fit and set up rear shock/suspension.
Rear Brake needs a new torque-arm.
Clutch cable and lever to sort out.
Carbs to strip, clean and re-assemble.
Battery box brackets to make and weld in to the frame.
Sort out battery, regulator, rectifier, flasher unit and fuse box mounting.
Wiring. One word doesn't do the task justice.
Centre exhaust mount and fitting to sort out.
Ditch rear foot rests (they're horrible) and make some pretty bolts instead?
Rub round the bits I haven't cleaned with an oily rag, twenty years of oily crud to remove.
Plumbing for the oil tank and auto-lube.
Bodywork back on, fuel and MoT.
Yeh, there's still plenty to go at. And the Buell needs a service before June. And I need to make a rack to fasten the top-box to the MV in time for the Ulster GP. _________________ Light is right. |

I know what you mean about lists, they're the best and worst thing you can do!
A tiny bit of progress tonight:
I was going to drill three 16mm holes in the bracket to give me some fore and aft adjustment, or join all the holes up to make a 16mm wide slot, but suddenly got nervous I was taking too much metal out. I've left the other two holes at 8mm, I'll open them out if I need them.
I can't decide if I should use two nuts as it's mocked up now or make an alloy spacer of the length I need to set ride height. I'll do the inital set up with the nuts, much easier to adjust, and it'll probably stay that way. If I use nuts I've got some "C" type big washers.
The vertical piece is cut to length so next job is to weld it all together. _________________ Light is right. |

Bracket welded up, and cleaned up.
I've also made an alloy spacer that I can cut to length when I know what's needed to get the right ride height. _________________ Light is right. |

Looks good that, i really need to practice my welding, would love to be able to make stuff like that, i struggle with the thin stuff though! Ill do a proper lovely weld on stuff at least 10m thick with 4mm rods on my arc genny though!
( i do quite a few digger buckets) _________________ Gagging for it |

Good welders can make a nice strong job that looks nice without grinding it back.
My welding is OK, solid, but not always as straight as I'd like! _________________ Light is right. |

Mine always look beautiful! And the slag mostly peels itself off, i just cant do it with little bits!, im not too good with mig (read - not done much) and if i try arc on anything little i just blow holes in it untill the amps are low enough not to, but then i cant get a weld to lay down!
Ill just stick to the big stuff _________________ Gagging for it |

I've done a lot of MIG welding, mostly on cars, but extensive modifications and repairs. If I can get comfy and jammed in where I want to be then it's fine, but welding stood up or bent over trying to reach something awkward is always a challenge.
The welds round the inside are OK but will look better when I get round to wire-brushing them out and painting. _________________ Light is right. |

It is looking good mate, still progressing, which is more than me. I have been getting other people's bikes ready for the TT.
I hope to have more motivation when I get back. |
