Hi Guys n Gals,

I have to say that the 50 or so miles that I did on Team Tiddler today were absolutely brilliant, and she ran really well.

Great stuff Reggie, pleased TT is doing well and even more pleased you are enjoying her

Proper fun little bikes.. That's why I nearly always reach for the keys to an AR instead of the bigger bikes. They simply make me smile Smile

Hi Shaun,

grin factor of ten.

TT will have another spin tomorrow as well, just slake down rides before I remove the swinging arm and suspension linkages, to get 'em powder coated.

Regards

Reggie

Hi Fazey,

thanks for the thought.

We bought these beauties for dad's project bike and the unusual thing about their design is that they're made for endurance racing, so can be removed, without even touching the upper yoke! Well schamrt they are too!

So this is the pivot head section.

And here's the side complete.

Hi Fazey,

yep they were at £127.80 delivered but they're exactly what dad wanted so the cost doesn't matter.

Hi Guys n Gals,

well now she's covered a couple of hundred miles, without any problems, I've removed the swinging arm and now must decide do I get it, and the suspension linkages media blasted and painted or media blasted and powder coated?

My gut tells me powder coating.

Decisions decisions eh!

powder coating all the way
got my done in the early 90's no rust completely protected.
can be a pain for finding an earth on the frame.

over time a good paint job is still going to deteriorate in that position.

cheers B

I'm not a big fan of powder coat ... It depends on the situation for me.

I've used it loads of times but now I'm back to preferring the more original painted look. I fully understand why people would go that way and its probably more down to the individual choice.

Wheels, yes easier to powder coat and great finish .. Gets stone chipped and harder to touch up. Same with swingarm etc. got the Tshirt

Frame .. Can look too good and sometimes 'gloopy' and if its any colour other than black don't get a petrol leak as it stains the frame and you can't remove the stain .. Yellowish silver looks a dog (seen on many a KR)

Kawasaki frame welding looks rubbish, but that's the way it came from the factory - if you want to hide it / smooth the welds then powder coat is easy, almost too easy..

Like I say, used to like the fact it was a great finish and easier option, now I'm not as big a fan. Totally get why people use it though and its massively popular ..so maybe I'm living in the past (grumpy old fart..lol)

Hi Shaun,

I must admit that I prefer painted finishes on other area's to the bike but reckon the hammering that swinging arms get, that they deserve that bit more protection, as would the like of the front fork lowers etc.

Shaun, very valid comments.

here is my outlook on it

i have 2 examples of bikes i own.
a 2000 J1 never out in the rain- garaged away in Sept and brought out for May. Its pristine ( exception is the damned wheels- paint was applied to lightly from the factory these will be painted again) yip its green

My Funduro another great bike but used during the winter , i would never bare metal paint - i powder coat on any part i refurbish.

if your bike is for show or investment --- paint!

if a keeper for daily use and the potential use on Uk salted road- powder coat.

Hi Ninjax,

yep the bike's going to be used, so I've dismantled the linkages/swinging arm bushes this morning and dropped off the parts at the powder coaters in Haslingden.

The swinging arm will be done with the nearest gold match we could find and the linkages are to be gloss black.

Looking forward to see how they come out but having seen the amount of work they had in progress, well I'm sure I've chosen well.
