That's some shite luck Straycat. I hate electrical too. I'm sure you'll get it sorted.
I was at the local Tim Hortons Thursday bike night - when I went to leave, it took me a few more kicks than I was used to (guessing carbs need a clean) so when I went to get off and get my helmet on, I didn't put the kickstand down all the way. Luckily, I still had a hand on the handlebar and was able to muscle it up without any issue... the guys watching must of though it was some weird 2 stroke thing. |

Yes, thanks, Ill get it figured out, I'll likely solicit help from friends that know more than me.
I had a no spark issue just as i took the bike apart, i put it all back together and bingo...it was all good.
now it seems to be a - works one day and not the next, type deal.
I just hope its not a CDI issue, our Canadian Bikes CDI boxes are not the same as the rest of the RG's of the same year out there.
with 110 bikes in Canada, odd's are not good on getting another cdi box _________________ 2014 Honda VFR800

I wonder if there's a suitable aftermarket replacement? |

not that i have been able to locate.
I hope it doesnt come to that, im not sure a bum CDI would give me spark one day and no spark the next.
Im just not knowledgeable enough on ignitions to know yet what the most likely cause is. as a neophyte using basic logic, Id be guessing that a scenario like mine is a bad ground, bad switch or bad connection some place. _________________ 2014 Honda VFR800

Well, I resolved my No Spark issue.
It was indeed a Bad CDI.
The Canadian Bikes have CDI with 2 plugs - a 5 pin and a 3 pin
Other Bikes (non Canadian) have only a 5 pin plug on the CDI
I happened to have a spare CDI from Japan (5 pin plug only) in the box of spares I got with the Bike
I swapped it in (left the 3 pin unplugged) and the bike Ran (albeit with the neutral light and kick stand switch not working since they are part of the 3 pin circuit).
I plugged the original CDI back in - no spark
So.... I ended up mounting the Japanese CDI AND the Canadian CDI (they actually do mount in different locations though near one another). The 5 pin plug allows the bike to run off the Japan CDI, the 3 pin plugs into the Canadian CDI which gives me my neutral light, the only function I dont have is a functional kick stand switch....which i can live without. _________________ 2014 Honda VFR800

Today I stripped both of my Aprilia Rs125's, in order to make one good one out of the two.
It's been a slow day. |

The LC Club were asking for potential photos for their 2016 calendar and I had a day off, so...

Do these chip shop owners NOT know who you are! Outrageous. Or they may just be re-stocking with tapas & croissants for the upcoming city of culture?
Talking of which, that LC beats any 'people on strings chucking feathers' nonsense. Maybe you should approach Hull council for a grant 'cos that LC is a bigger attraction than any thing I've seen so far. |

That should have said '2017' of course. But I just found out they chose one of my photos for the calendar. |

Well, I didn't touch my bikes today, but I had a day off work and visited a few local-ish bike shops looking for new boots and a replacement sidepod for my broken Arai. Last time I went into a new bike shop I didn't recognise anything on the showroom floor and felt hugely out of place, so I wasn't particularly looking forward to it.
First thing I saw today was a 1100 Katana, next to a GT500, PE175 and a 70's CR250. More like it. In the same shop was a mint GSX-R1100H and a pukka ex-Grant/Whitham 750RK with full factory race kit.
The next shop had matching 250 and 350LC's and an early Powervalve. And a cute RZ50 import with spoked wheels.
I still think most modern bikes are hideous though... |
