Thank goodness for you SDR boys, keeping this place alive.

Or is it just us trying to keep the SDR's alive?

I'm currently upto around £300 on oil seals/gaskets/bearings in preparation for the rebuild.

The crank was shot and the fuel tank was actually a sieve.

Just noticed my SDR Oil Pump is marked 1KT.

The SDR part # is 2TV - 13101-00
The 1KT part # is 1KT - 13101-00

Is this a just a recognised upgrade or replacement, or have I got the wrong Oil Pump to my bike by a previous owner? Not sure how it might affect the SDR. ?

Just wondering if I should be trying to source the 2TV oil pump just to be safe?

I understand that the only difference is that the 1KT pump has 2 feeds so presumably the previous owner sorted that.

The engine is still with the builder, I feel guilty dumping 2 boxes of bits on him bit I literally did not have the time. It's a total rebuild from the bare crankcases to include the overhauled oil pump and tacho drive from the DT200R if I recall correctly.

I got carried away and duplicated a number of oil seals and gaskets however spares are rarely a bad thing to have in the drawer. Will give the chap a call in a couple of weeks, I did say there was no hurry and to fit me in when he could. I has a rebuild done by him on another Yamaha so wanted him to do the SDR despite the fact he doesn't do engine rebuild nowadays by choice so I won't be pressing him.

Hoping to show completed engine pictures soon

Ok, I picked up my SDR engine last week from the builder (I had no time to sort it myself) . I did say originally that I was not in a hurry for it but wasn't anticipating 3 months, anyhow its back in the mancave.

2 initial items to address ...

The carb didn't get ultrasonically cleaned so an excuse to experiment with the model I obtained a while back.

I had provided all the DT200 parts to drive a rev counter, which should in theory be a straight fit however the gear would not enable the casing to fit back on snugly so the builder left it out rather than machine the casing. I recall other SDR owners have managed this upgrade, did anyone else end up machining the casings at all?

I am in the process of finalising the tidying up of the rolling chassis and a lot of cycle parts then systematically performing a dry build. I intend to repaint the SDR closely to the OEM Melting Green, prompted by the original tank having rusted through and obtaining a replacement which is a different colour.

I envisage a few more challenges during the build but for now the engine is back in one peice and the totally overhauled Oil pump is due back soon, Thank you Santa.
