This forum has had no maintenance or updates since it was first set up 19 years ago.
It's survived through sheer luck frankly.
I've just been told that we (ie. Me) will be charged an additional £2/month because it's still running an old unsupported version of the phpBB forum software.
I can't be arsed any more.
If anyone understands this stuff and is keen to perform the necessary upgrades or even take over the whole thing, please let me know ASAP.
Otherwise I'll kill it. |

That's a real shame. I appreciate it takes a lot of effort to setup/manage/administer/maintain/fund so understand where youre coming from.
I am a pretty new member to the platform compared to many others but have gleaned a lot of knowledge from the threads and member feedback. I also note as you previously mentioned that there is significantly less activity nowadays which will ultimately have a bearing on your decision.

I've been missing in action for a while from this forum, and out of the blue decided to pop in today to catch up and see what's happening.
Tim, I get your frustrations with the forum, admin, costs and particularly the lack of posters and topics. I suspect it's been a thankless task for large chunks of the time it's been running.
Is there anything we can do that would make you reconsider your decision?
I totally understand if you still need to call it a day though, nothing lasts forever, do what you think is best for you. _________________ www.taffmoto.co.uk for your replacement fairing panels |

Thanks Rob.
If it was still a popular place to interact then it'd be worth the hassle.
We don't really work like that any more though, me included.

Social media has definitely played a large part in the demise of many forums.
But I don't get it. Using Facebook as an example, I don't believe they're as user friendly, or as good for old topics to be hunted out. It feels much more sterile.
It's also odd how it creates a need for instant response. If a post isn't replied to immediately, anger or frustration sometimes rears it ugly head.
Forums are much more of a social interaction for me. Like mates down the pub. Drop in and out whenever suits, no issues.
Everything ever posted on forums are available much easier, and find when needed, at the touch of a button.
I don't believe it's an age thing for me disliking Facebook.
I'm led to believe that a large portion of Facebook are older people anyway, as the youngsters have buggered off to other platforms.
Tim, it was fun while it lasted. I commend you for continuing so long with the forum.
The shows and jaunts around the country and abroad with you will be remembered fondly for years to come.
Just give us a heads up before you turn the lights out though. _________________ www.taffmoto.co.uk for your replacement fairing panels |

If I don't do anything, it'll still work (I think), it's just the price goes up.
Maybe I'll bite the bullet when my head's less f*cked.
Never say never for another DS Event by the way, probably not Stafford but maybe something less formal. Suggestions welcome. |

If a number of members contributed a nominal amount then perhaps the old software support/additional fee aspect could be overcome.
As mentioned FB has eroded the forums a little but I believe you cant beat the experience and assistance that members of the forum can offer to others. |
