Saw this on eBay the other day, Picture wasn’t great but the Buy-It-Now price was reasonable so I thought I’d have a gamble on it.
As it was on eBay:
The Bike had been slid down the road on the left hand side and the seller had lost interest in fixing. I went to collect it expecting a half built bike that would make a nice project.
However I got to the seller’s house and was shocked when he uncovered the TZR. Firstly it was one of the genuine Marlboro 2AW models, secondly the mileage (kilometerage?) was very low and thirdly the condition of the bike. Apart from the crash damage it was very clean and hardly any corrosion at all. It was even MOTed and Taxed and the engine sounds sweet!
So I got it back to mine and immediately set about repairing the cracks in the top fairing and then replacing the smashed hand blisters (new genuine yam ones were included with the bike). With that done it was time for a few (bad) pictures. I really need to get a better camera. Anyway:
Pretty much as bought:
Note the mileage
The damage:
Removal of unwanted stickers:
And a final one:
I’ll be picking up an indicator and a pair of Jap spec mirrors next weekend and a few other bits that it needs and then taking it for a spin. _________________ my TDRs from over the years:

the results of this evening's spanner wielding
Mirrors fitted:
Indicator, clip-on, switchgear and clutch lever assembly all replaced (with second hand stuff):
The front end is twisted ever so slightly to the right so that's on the list of things to do. _________________ my TDRs from over the years:

Managed to spend a hour or so on the 1KT today, inbetween various household DIY tasks.
The Plan was to unblock the pilot jet in the left hand carb and check the carbs are set up.
However, Airbox off and a quick check of the filter saw this;
a homemade filter, that wasn't even close to being the right shape and size and no support cage!
Enquires have been made for a pipercross replacment filter and i'm on the look out for a either a complete airbox or just the white plastic support cage.
on to the carbs:
no major surprises here, evidence of butchery by a previous owner as all the float bowl screws were chewed but inside was reasonably clean. The pilot jet was unblocked and the emulsion tube refitted properly and then the carbs balanced before bolting the lot back together and firing it up. Starts and runs better now but the tickover is a bit high so thats on the list for next time. _________________ my TDRs from over the years:

nahh there's loads of room......... honest
Its easier just to remove everything and sort it and then bolt it back together afterwards.
Anyway, courtesy of Moriwakiman there is a piece of plastic lovelyness heading this way from Yahoo Auctions
more pics when it lands and is fitted. _________________ my TDRs from over the years:

yes I'll have to replace that as well.
For everyone else, the negative battery connection came off on the TZR on the way to the pub for last thursday's shardlow meet so in a cbale tie was use as a bodge to hold the connector onto the battery so i could get home with lights. _________________ my TDRs from over the years:

That ain't a bodge, that's a proper repair. My car fell apart on the motorway the other night and is now held together with cable ties. Temporary get-me-home fix ? Well, yes, but it's staying like that. |

as so a small arrived from Japan, containing one genuine yamaha solo seat cowl:
and so it was fitted:
The marlboro sticker on the middle section now looks out of place so that will be removed at some point.
To say that I'm pleased with the seat cowl would be a serious understandment. IMHO it finishes the bike off nicely. _________________ my TDRs from over the years:

Absolutely, seat cowls don't work on everything but it definitely looks ace on that. Nice one.
Been after one for my 3MA for ages now, I've bid some daft sums for some in Japan and still not won one. |
