The Capri came up on eBay within 15 miles of me (I'm sure you all know how rare it is not to have to travel half way across country for a vehicle!) so I just had to have it! Haha no the shed is actually a dog house! My dad built it out of old panels and said he thinks it looks like a dog! He actually designed it that way!

I've always loved classic cars............well classic anything really, steam trains, prop aircraft, old mills etc etc but before I got back into me bikes (about 97 ish) I had about £3000 to spend on the right Triumph GT6, I looked at a few but none were worth the asking price Sad

Then I just thought bugger this I'm gonna get another bike. And the rest...... etc etc

It just amazes me what is now termed a classic, not just in the car world but the bike world too.

I just can't imagine the day when the Ford Mondeo is classed as a classic, mind you how many owners of Kawasaki's thought their H1 would be?

this is brilliant! I was having the very same conversation with the guy at work the other day and we decided that it is almost impossible to predict which modern cars and bikes will be really worth something in the future! After a long chat we decided they just do not make vehicles like they used to! Take my ford Capri for example! When they were released, they were super popular and abundant however when you really get down to it they are terrible cars! No brakes, not particularly fast, compared to the other cars available at the time, they rotted out, the list goes on! But still, somehow they have become a much sort after vehicle! I guess it's a similar story for bikes like the h1, they weren't particularly rare back in the day but they got a reputation for being a widow maker! Now I can't think of any modern vehicle, or any vehicle in the last 15 years for that matter that has earnt a reputation (be it a good or a bad reputation) for itself. It seems that modern machines are just too sterile, they march out of the factory floor, line up in the showroom and sit there waiting for a buyer. They probably go through their whole life without giving their owners half as big of a grin as I get when I sit on my 25 year old rg500, that's before I even fire it up! Of course I could just be a total nut job, if so then please disregard this last paragraph before you end up like me! However if you feel in anyway similar to me Then that's just great! It's nice to know I'm not alone on this one!
Aden

If you want to know what will be worth something in the future take a look at a 15/16yo boys bedroom wall. Any motor vehicle that is pined up there and under £40K new will be your classic in 20/25 years time.

Buy them when they are cheap in 10-15 years time and keep 'em in the garage for 10 years while they appreciate. You never know, they might pay for our care home fees Wink

... as RG250 screamer says, modern vehicles are missing something. The only cars I have had that have any affection for are Type 2 bay Camper van I used every day 2000 - 2006, 1987 Alfa 33 Cloverleaf and currently an MG TF. the only common link is that they involve the driver ... in terms of driving and maintenence ... to keep one going you have to understand and need a sort of sensitivity to the vehicle. particularly a TF .... they need tender care to keep 'em going. I also have my later Dad's Ducati GT750 which is (and they always were) ... engaging .... characterful (which can mean unreliable) .... which is what it's all about.... maybe

Hi

As a toy car we have this:-

Bought back in 1996 when my better half was on crutches for a long time (7 years in total in the end). We wanted a reasonable size automatic with a reasonable amount of go. About 5 years after that it came off the road to sort the bodywork out (that picture was taken before that). Currently stuck in the garage as there is a car on the drive that I can't get to start, and it is too much like hard work to push it up and down the drive to get a car out).

Just bought this as an everyday car:-

Think the biggest issue with modern cars becoming classics will be a lack of spare parts, with components being too specialised to be easily substituted. And MOTs will make getting things legal difficult. Imagine trying to get an airbag control unit for a 25 year old car to put out a warning light. Or getting an automatic failure as you have swapped in an aftermarket fuel injection ECU as the original isn't available (bad enough with simpler cars - there is pretty much only one person in the world with the skills to rebuild the Spica fuel injection that Alfa used in the 1970s in some cars).

Had a 1988 Alfa 33 (a Sportwagon), and still got a lhd 1.3 series 3 and a P4. The P4 is great fun.

All the best

Mrs bobbyboy insisted we needed a hatchback when our first child was born, to replace my escort van.
As I always wanted a celicasupra, and it was a hatchback as requested, I searched everywhere and managed to find this one locally.
Fortunately, she didn't know my plan, until after I had bought it and brought it home.... Razz
Drove it for a few years, then decided I'd restore it. Trouble is, its space in the garage was lost to too many other bikes, so it had to go.
Great fun for the time I had it Crying or Very sad
