hi all i got my rg 250 1987 mk111 3 weeks ago after puting a wanted in my local gumtree south wales uk.
a guy came up with this bike. a 1987 mk111 rg 250 gamma
not been on the road or running for over 10 years, been in his barn/lockup
full of dust and looking very sorry for itself.also a non runner
i done a hpi check and all was clear. i made made a very cheeky offer
and now the bikes mine. i had to travel about 15miles in the snow to pick it up.i couldnt wait till snow melted as i had to have it. always wanted one
in my younger days as these bikes was the ones in the day.
ok its not a pretty sight and looked a lot worse in the pics.
after getting it home i was very happy with my rg.
lots of work and money to spend but i think it will be worth it.
the good points are it came with a few boxes of bits. like a nother engine,2x expansion exhausts with microns, then found out they were for a mk1/2 rg.
so sold them on and got nearly my money back for the bike
what a result.
still got a few bits for spares.
been working on the bike soon as i got it home, done a compression test
and both cylinders on nearly 150 so all good there.
dropped the oil and put fresh oil in,2x spark plugs and took the cars off.
carbs were in a state full of green gunk and smelly like paint
gave them a good soaking and a good clean then stuck them back on.

put some fresh petrol in the tank, the tank was mint inside and was very suprised how clean it was.
i kicked it over loads of times having a breather inbetween and wow it started up.sounds great too, then refilled the radiator with coolant & water. fitted a new battery, new exhaust gaskets, starts up first/secound kick now. il put some pictures up soon as i find out how.

Goodmorning Lee

There should be WW dark clocks on the WW

Only on some RG 500 WW versions they used white faced clocks

Regards Erik

didnt take long to arrive.took a heat gun to them and a blade to them to get the stripes off, then 320/600 wet n dry to get the sticky off.
also had to glue a small crack and fill over
pic of the tank had to bare metal it and put some etch primer on,

cheers for the reply. yeh i do tend to spend all my spare time on the bike,
cant wait to go for a rip on it,
had a go at repairing battery side fairing to day, erik sent me it with other bits a bought,so cut the bits needed off my old crapy one.
started with super glue to hold them in place then some tiger seal on the rear
then fibreglass & resin to fill the gaps, some high build primer on top.
happy with the way its turned out so far.
also some 800 wet n dry on the tank as not so happy with the guide coat.
put some fresh guide coat on today and looks a lot better.
phoned skidmarx today so looks like im getting belly pans of them.
need a top fairing now then that should do it.
