I'm a member of the Vintage MCC and they have been persuing this quite vigorously. Most people that own older bikes and cars do not understand what this means and there have been some in depth technical articles published by VMCC - there are various articles on-line but the bottom line is that many vehicles will be unusable in their current form with internal components simply "dissolving" in a short period of time.

A simple example - PTFE thread tape - dissolves this very quickly
