|
Hi All, Just a post to introduce myself as I have just joined the forum.
Having owned an AR!25 in 1985 and enjoyed all the fun when young.
Trying to keep up with Rd's,Tzr and Kmx 125s of the day.
Well its time to rebuild that bike whic has sat in pieces for the last 25 years.
I never sold it on- a few modifications upto 1990- yellow powdercoated frame and swingarm. Big bore engine i think it was a 175 with a modded Kmx200 carb,
Around 1990 it was in the back of my dad's garage with a blown engine.
After moving upto bigger bikes and better cars ---- its been forgotten.
Stripped and boxed up into cupboards at the back of the garage.
until now. so my Ar125 when i was 17 is getting rebuilt.javascript:emoticon('')
over the weekend i post a few pictures of the project
i'm hoping to rebuild back to concours condition.
so first few questions are:
who can rebuild my engine - back to standard - complete stripdown and rebuild and possible costs.?
I have a boxed NOS front fairing, mudguard, fuel tank.
the last 4 parts are proving difficult to get. side panels and the dreaded back fairing with the lockable lid.
so there could be a few questions for help over the next few months
thanks
Brew

Welcome Brew!!
You have definitely found an AR125 friendly site and I for one would love to see the pictures ..
Get some up and ask as many questions as you like.. Having more than my fair share of ARs and parts... I may even be able to help
Add your location too, that always helps ..
Keeping another little AR alive sounds brilliant to me _________________ We are where we are... |

Welcome!
Why do you want to put it back to standard? I can understand a wish to make it look standard, but it sound like you put a lot of thought and effort in to making go better than standard, so why not rebuild it so that to the un-informed it looks like a standard bike, but build ohn the "improvements" you've made.
Upgrades to brakes are easy now that better brakes from later and faster bike are so cheaply available on eBay. Modern tyres and maybe even a wheel swap if you want to go large.
Keep it taseful, but try to make it the "RR" version that wasn't available when it was made. _________________ Light is right. |

i appreciate your comments about tasteful mods
if you asked me a few years ago- i would have went down that route.
to be honest it's guilt - when i was young i abused that bike for all the good reasons and then threw it on the heap when bigger and better bikes/cars came my way.
Time to pay it back some t&c.
the other reason is i want my 13yr old son involved in the mechanical aspects of building something ( get him away from that Xbox). |

Yep ! Fully on the page with that one. iPhones PCs Xbox are wonderful gadgets but they turn kids into antisocial morons that can't hold a face to face conversation.
I love it when my kids show interest in the oil smoke and noise of the two strokes _________________ We are where we are... |

I found a NOS red B2 rear cowl for a friend a couple of months before Xmas..
Haven't seen a new silver one for quite a while but I can ask some of my contacts.. Like you say, it's a rare part and hard to find one in good condition..
Do you have the locking tail flap?
Post pics and list, you never know _________________ We are where we are... |
