Hi Guys n Gals,
here's some shots of the re-bushing and the fit of the swinging arm.
Here's the replacement caps and bushes that came from Thailand.
As you can see, they still have the protective coating on them.
And perfectly fitted into part of the suspension linkages, complete with new O rings, spot on. The smudge on the linkage is due to me having mitts full of grease and not the finish of the powder coating.
And with the new (UK sourced) bushes fitted to the swinging arm (cap missing from this side).
And finally with the swinging arm fitted, so you can see how close the powder coat colour is to the original wheels.

Hi Guys n Gals,
so what to do, on a day off, when it's pouring down with rain? Well you know me, it has to be tinkering time in the garage.
I was hoping to get the suspension linkage bushes pressed back into place but as things were going well, I also managed to get the swinging arm bushes done. Jobs a good 'un .
I must admit it was a right beggar to get the swinging arm bushes fitted, as the vice wouldn't open far enough. A bit of subtle persuasion (with a hammer and steel plate to protect the edges) was all that was needed.
When I removed the swinging arm, I found that there was only a single end cap and O ring in place, so one of the previous owners must have lost one, when they brush painted the swinging arm, so I'll re-assemble as it is and start looking for a replacement. |
Hi Guys n Gals,
talk about lucky or what, I went looking through the boxes of bits I'd bought I managed to find a space end cap, that I didn't even know I had! Needless to say it was soon cleaned up, greased, everything loosened off and the cap persuaded back into place.
Whilst I was at it, I noticed a puddle of red two stroke oil under the bike and found there was a poor seal from the oil level unit, so the oils was seeping past. I remembered seeing a spare switch in the bits, so back to the boxes, switch found and soon fitted, with a much better seal
Result, two faults found, two parts needed and cost zilch! _________________ Kindest regards

Hi Guys n Gals,
now that Photobucket's started to play again, I can post an image of the belly pan, kindly sent to me by Shaun.
I must admit it's in much better condition than I could've hoped for and the minor scratches and scuffs should be easy to remove, during the paint prep work.
Shaun also was kind enough to send tracings of the brackets, so I can fabricate my own, as you can see here but I wonder if any of our crew have any original brackets that they'd consider selling to me, before I go to the effort of making my own?

Hi Pete,
Good try but they are not the ones that carry the belly pan front supports.. If you use these you need a second bracket each side.. Have a looksee at the ones on your bike _________________ We are where we are... |

Hi Fazey,
thanks for the links and suggestions.
I'd still prefer to use OEM kit if possible, if not, I'll fabricate my own, using Shauns' templates.
Hi Shaun,
yeah I'm looking everyday and will do so until the weather warms up enough for me to start working outside again! _________________ Kindest regards

Hi Fazey,
just thinking, I don't suppose you have an end on shot of your brackets, so if I do need to fabricate my own, then at least I'll know the angles for the bending? _________________ Kindest regards
