Hi all Its my first post to the forum!
I just purchased an original A5 AR125. The bike is an import to Australia as we didn't get model here which was a shame. This little beauty is a Japanese import with only 485 kilometres on the clock.
Unfortunately the bike would lose its spark but I think I found the problem which I narrowed down to a faulty spark plug cap.
Other than the spark issue its in need of some forks and a rear shock as the chrome has deteriorated over time.
Can someone tell me the best tyres for this model?
Thanks
Rob |

Welcome Rob. Most of the traffic on here recently is about AR125's so you're in the right place. |

Hi Rob,
a very warm welcome to you.
I'm still on the original rubber yet but it won't be long before the likes of Shaun, Jack or Fazey will give you their thoughts.
Please post a photo when you can. _________________ Kindest regards

Michelin Pilot Street's are pretty decent for lighter bikes. |

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
The tyres are going to be the last thing to do but thank you for the suggestions. Hopefully something is available here in Australia.
My priority at the moment is solving the ignition problem. I fitted a new spark plug cap today and I now have a nice strong spark. The bike starts easily warms up and runs well on the stand for a good 5 to 10 minutes. I took the bike down the road and it ran for about a 100 yards before it died. Pushed it back home and checked the spark and nothing.
I let the bike sit for 5 - 10 minutes and then presto the spark is back! Fire it back up and not even 5 minutes it dies again.
I bought a manual and checked all of the obvious checks with a multi meter and all looked within tolerance.
I'm in a position of bewilderment as to whats giving me this problem.
Any ideas? |

Welcome ballybob
I really don't like electrical problems, from what you have described I would check, starting simple first..
Battery - is it holding its charge, shorting out, earthing problems
Coil - is it losing spark as it gets hot
Voltage regulator / rectifier - ditto
Stator and pick up - check for loose wiring / output and silly little things like wiring worn where it comes out the generator cover and over the front sprocket
Sorry I can't be more precise..
Hope you suss it out soon _________________ We are where we are... |

Jack......any chance of a link to these tires.
And how big can you go on the back tire before it touches the swing arm.
Anyone else got a link for some sport tires for the old ar. |

Thanks for the suggestions but i'm 90% sure its the stator. I ran the bike till it lost spark and the disconnected the stator plug from the loom and put a ohm meter across the wires. The resistance was changing as the motor cooled down. I also saw changes in resistance just by tapping the cover with a screwdriver. Now to source a puller for the rotor and have a closer look! |
