Simple question hopefully.
Before I attempt to separate the cases, should the gearbox be in any particular gear in order to enable movement when splitting the cases?
I'm told some bikes need to be in a particular gear in order for the cases to separate and also avoid damage to the gearbox. _________________ If in doubt ask, or RTFM.

Ok, the cases are now apart so hopefully the gear selection was not a pre-requisite. _________________ If in doubt ask, or RTFM.

Good effort, I'd guess it was in neutral before splitting?
Be good to see some pics, or even a resto thread etc, help get a bit more traffic on the forum. |

Pretty sure it was in neutral, yes.
I was told it had seized when I bought it but assumed it was probably just a case of top end removal, hone/re-bore, possible piston/rings/small-end bearing then re-assembly.
In reality its somewhat more of a horror story. I already intended to create a project thread as suggested by another forum member once I have looked into the preferred method of attaching images.
The project was not expected to be a quick turnaround due to finding workshop time but in the meantime I will be attempting to source the neccessary rebuild items. _________________ If in doubt ask, or RTFM.

I think mine was in neutral when disassembled and reassembled, but I don't think it makes any difference if any particular gear is selected.

Many Thanks James.
Cases are currently apart whilst the crankshaft is at the machine shop for evaluation.
