Can anyone clarify how much fork oil to use in each leg please?
I have searched high and low but cant find a definitive value, I have found values but none that agree with eachh other.
TIA. |

Have you seen this one, got it from an SDR site, not sure if you will have to translate page again?

Brilliant, no I hadn't. Many Thanks.
I was thinking of digging around on that site too, perhaps a workshop manual might be lurking somewhere too?
Thanks again. |

Ron,
I see that the SDR200.com info table doesn't mention the height of the air space. The SDR manual says:
Volume of oil - 255ml
Height of air space above oil (with spring removed and fork fully compressed) - 102mm
I can't see that it mentions viscosity of oil to be used...although I vaguely recall a reference (perhaps from somewhere else) to "Yamaha Suspension Fluid" (but also no mention of viscosity). From memory, I used Fork Oil 10 in mine and they seem fine.
Since nearly all of the SDR fork components are the same as SRX250 (except springs and spacers, I think), you may find some English-language references to comparable data.
Regards,
James |

Many Thanks James, that's great.
My rebuilds seem to start in a strange random order - the 250 commenced when I replaced the brake lines, the SDR has just kick-started when I got the seat recovered. he guy is a retired elderly chap with old school skills and would previously found re-trimming something like an Aston Martin DB4 or the like.
The crankcases are bare and need the replacement bearings pressed in then rebuild the engine, aiming to commence on the rolling chassis in parallel whilst I have room in the Mancave temporarily.
It doesn't look like the fuel tank is recoverable, too much rust and pinholes. Contemplating an FRP replacement, don't know if anyone has done the same? How did it work out?
I will look on SDR200.com for a manual inline with the rebuild, again Many Thanks for the info.
Regards, Ron. |
