Diff'rent Strokers

Hi,

my name is richard and i'm from the netherlands.

Just wanted to let you know what a great forum this is.
Been reading the posts on here for some time now and find them very helpful Very Happy

I've been a 2 stroke lover ever since i got my first one in 88, it was a RD350N1

Next was a Honda NS400R, then a Suzuki RGV250M.

The RGV was very nice for about 2 years but then started to develop lot's of problems (weak power valves) rebuilt the engine but somehow never got it to run properly and then it seized... Sad

I got it running again with parts left over from another crashed RGV i bought earlier of BAT motorcycles but i decided to trade it in on a honda CBR400RR nc29 (i know, it's a shame)

Had the CBR for a very long time but got bored with it and decided that wanted a 2 stroke again.

Looked around for a sensible one (not to exotic/expensive since the wife has to be kept happy as well.... Cool

) and decided on a TZR 250 2MA or 1KT since i had test driven one year's earlier when i still had the RD350 and was impressed.

I found a nice one, an TZR250 2MA from 88.

Bought it 3 years ago from the first owner (really Shocked

), completely original and with only about 8000 km's on it.

It was in a, for it's age, good state but needed some TLC.

Changed the tires (they were like new, but very hard rubber and scary to drive as they were 8 years old.... Rolling Eyes

) Replaced them with Pirelli demons, wow, what a change.

Furthermore had to replace the front pads (also like new but faded when used properly........very scary that one Confused

) and gave it a change of all the fluids.

Ran properly after that and had some very nice rides on it... Smile

The next year the front end developed a leak, so changed the seals and fork oil and treated it to some new Wilbers springs i got of ebay germany. this changed the handling from ok to spot on.... Smile

At the same time i also replaced the front brake line for a braided version with the nice looking anodized red/blue fittings, now the front brake is perfect... Laughing

I also located an original single seat cover on ebay UK, it had some minor marks but after cleaning and polishing it looked as new, very nice Smile

I've also replaced al the plastic screws holding the screen and the fairing blisters since they had gone white and very brittle from the age, now they are nice and black again (not on the pictures yet)

So far i haven't done many miles on it, currently it's about 9500 km's, but i only ride in nice weather since i use a peugeot scooter for driving to work (or the car if the wife let's me.... Cool

)

When the weather gets better over here i intend to polish the front lower tubes as currently they are corroded beneath the original clear coating.

I'm also on the lookout for 1KT mirrors and indicators, i've found the part numbers but yamaha doesn't stock them anymore.

But i've looked on CSML.nl, they can supply them and cheaper than they would have been from yamaha.. Very Happy

Got a rear light/indicater unit from ebay UK, very cheap but dirty and the right indicator lens was missing...not to bad i thought, i'll just clean it and get a new lens only to find out (afterwards... Rolling Eyes

) that the right hand lens is not available anymore, only the left hand.... Crying or Very sad

So now i'm looking for a lens to complete the unit

I will post some pictures of the bike when i find out how to do that....i've found out... Very Happy

Still not much luck finding a reaar indicator lens, maybe i'll have a look on yahoo japan and order it via the through japan website, i'm a bit nervous about the shipment costs to the netherlands though... Crying or Very sad

Yes, i think i will have to go that route, a friend of mine is looking for clutch plates and a parts manual for a honda MVX250F, maybe he wants to share shipping and commision.

I contacted another shipper, moriwaki man, he seems ok, very nice contact so far Very Happy

Nice clean bike Mister.

I have sold quite a few of those indicator lenses on ebay, they are all the same as far as I know. Left or right hand.
Get on ebay and have a look, FZR, TZR125/250, latest RD350, if it looks right, chances are it will be.

Failing that buy the other side from the Yamaha dealer and fit that.

I think there's a confusion, i mean the indicator lens for a japanese 1KT version, they're different from the european ones.
I've checked with yamaha, but they don't do them anymore. Also checked CSML.nl, but they only have the left hand side, not the right hand side..... Crying or Very sad

Now and then there are complete rear unit's on ebay but usually they go for silly prices or cheap but incomplete, like mine.....

I think the 1KT indicators and mirror's look much better, much more clean looking, especially the mirrors as the european ones look like big ping pong bats Laughing

The mirrors and front indicators i can get from CSML new.... Smile

But there's no rush, the bike is fine as it is and can only get even better Very Happy

I'm currently checking on yahoo japan, a lot of complete units, but no loose lenses, probably have to get another complete unit to get it right.

Hi

The rear indicator setups from a 1KT turn up on Ebay UK occasionally.

Front indicators are a bit more specialised. Old Bike Shop on Ebay (based in Singapore I think) do them. Plenty of them in white but running low in blue (I ordered a new set of blue ones from Yamaha in the UK and one came through, and that was apparently Yamahas last blue one).
