Past project. Yamaha TZ250U (3AK)
3AK model history details to follow!
Sadly, I lost the before photos of this bike, but it was one big mess!
A lot of hours were put into the bike, to get it into the standard that you see it here. The bike has undergone a full nut and bolt rebuild, and to be honest, my attention to detail cost me money when it came to replacing some of the nuts and bolts. I just ordered them up and did not give them a second thought, then when they arrived the friendly Yamaha dealer that I used suggested that I sat down as he gave me the bill. It turns out that most of them were titanium!! (Lesson learned on that one) The engine on the bike was seized, but as it was being rebuilt anyway, I guess that did not matter too much. Because of crash damage, a certain amount of welding was carried out to the swingarm. The headstock and rear engine mounts, were also welded back up, as they had stress cracks.
The Marlboro paintwork was chosen because this particular bike was fitted with factory supplied Marlboro wheels. They were in mint condition and were not repainted. As wit all of my bikes, the paintwork was carried out by Rob Garland of Moto Body Shop.
The bike was sold at the end of 2004, to a French collector. Sadly I have heard that he smashed it up this year, whilst contesting in a French national TZ meeting.
(Sorry about the photo sizes, i will edit them later)
