Hi.
I am new to the club.
I own a collection of old Japanese 2 strokes and one of those is a Honda MVX250F. I live in New York and visit my family sometimes each year in N. Ireland and the Honda is stored in N. Ireland so I can ride it a few days each year when I visit. Therefore it does not get much mileage each year, a few hundred at most.
I have heard those bikes have a very bad reputation for blowing rear cylinders. However, I like my MVX very much, it is a fun bike to ride and fast for an old 250, handles well and brakes well and the sound when it comes onto the power is great. I do not ride it full speed for long periods so I have not had any trouble with the rear cylinder.
Here is a friends' web site and on that if you scroll down the page you can see my Honda MVX and a Youtube video of it on the road in N. Ireland from last year. The other bikes on the page are the rest of my collection in New York.

I need some parts for my MVX, maybe someone can help ?
(1) - most importantly, I need an IGNITION UNIT for cylinder 2, or the rear or middle depending on what you want to call it. Does anyone have one for sale ?
(2) - clutch plates and springs ?
(3) - front fork tubes ?
(4) - rear seat cowling for single seat conversion ?
Thank You & Best Wishes.

I got an MVX single-seat cowl and the optional rad panels from Yahoo Auctions Japan. Best place to find all those parts you need I reckon, not many MVX's around anywhere else.
Front forks may be the same as another Honda from the same era, VT250 maybe ?
Welcome to the forum by the way ! |

So you are the guy who was using bidnapper against me
Fair play though.
I have a various selection of new pistons and rings, but not a complete set yet. Do you have any surplus to sell?
I'm also looking for gaskets of any type
Regards

Hi.
I might have found someone who can repair my Spark Unit.
I need clutch plates and springs and gaskets.
Anyone know were to find these ?
Does anyone make a gasket kit for this bike ?

Clutch friction plates 22201-166-000 £8.51 ea 6 needed available to order from any honda dealer and are in stock with Honda UK. Or part # P22201GF6000 as a japan made pattern part from David Silver at £4:50 ea
166 model code relates to an MB50 so maybe the springs will be the same too.
I haven't found any gaskets anywhere...........yet. But there is always gasket paper available from Frost's on line, your clutch cover a scalpel and hole punch set. Provides hours of fun as the nights draw in. Can you measure the thickness of the original gasket and let me know as this is the route I will be following myself?
Hope that helps
Regards

Thanks Ian.
Good information.
I will let you know about the clutch gasket thickness in due course, but it will be a while until I work again on this bike.
I live in USA and keep this bike in N. Ireland and only ride it / work on it when I visit my family there. It will be Christmas before I am back there.
Best Wishes.

Hi.
My friend repaired the blown Spark Unit for cylinder number 2.
It worked fine on a test bed but as soon as he fitted it to the bike, it blew again.
Therefore we consider the fault must be in the bike somewhere.
We are focusing in on the Tacho, as this is the only component we have not checked to be good. the Tacho is on the same circuit as Spark Unit 2.
Has anyone any ideas or had previous with the Tacho causing problems ?
Thank You & Best Wishes.

If you suspect the tacho, try running the motor with it disconnected and see if the problem goes away. _________________ MVX250 1983 MVX250 1984 GT380J 1972

Yes, that is likely the next step.
I will let you know how that goes.

I got a good used Spark Unit and fitted that and the bike again runs fine.
To be cautious, I hve disconnected the Tacho, I may connect it later and see what happens. _________________ Kawasaki Mach 3 |
