|
|
Spent the afternoon at Dave Hammonds workshop in Dover delving into the inner depths of one of my MVX's
It dont look good. Although the motor ran yesterday and sounded sweet, when I took the top end off the crankcase chambers were full of rust and sludge. The cranks doesn't spin very smoothly and the little ends are rough too. Pistons and rings look good, but I'm doubtfull the bores will clean with a hone and will need a re-bore. All the result from standing in a Japanese back garden for twenty years or so I guess.
But we can rebuild it..........I hope
I have new cranks, but I am really looking for a 0.5mm front piston to make a set, or two sets of 0.25mm rings. Any rear small end bearings wouldn't go a miss either.
I could build it with odd sizes of pistons, but that would be a last resort.
Can anyone help. Cash waiting or swaps
How do I upload pics to keep you all up to date _________________ MVX250 1983 MVX250 1984 GT380J 1972

As you can see there is a rusty crank and some nasty looking sludge in the crank chambers. Amazingly this motor sounded crisp just before the strip. The mains are shot (lucky I have a supply of new cranks) and a bit of luck is the gearbox and clutch are all perfect.
Will post more pics as the re-build takes shape. _________________ MVX250 1983 MVX250 1984 GT380J 1972

That looks well shot. Lucky you have new cranks. They are still available from Honda at silly money. _________________ Alastair

If you are refering to the CMSNL price, then they are indeed silly money.
However I have a supply at a fraction, and I mean a fraction of that cost with some still available if any one is interested. They are genuine Honda parts, 13000-KG4-000
brand new in boxes, and the two I've opened are in factry fresh perfect condition.
