Anyone out there got an MBX80? I always fancied one of them – twin front discs etc. Might be in the market to buy one if anyone's got one for sale |

I remember the watercooled 50 well. Nice little bike. I'm currently restoring the MTX80R which used the same motor. Motor was later used in the NS50/80 gag bikes. If you like small strokers, go for it. _________________ Alastair

Guy I went to see about a YSR80 also has a pristine MBX80 - I didn't get to see it as it was in his mate's garage - but he is going to send some pics of it, along with pics of his immaculate "B" reg RD125 (which was parked up in the lounge). Both bikes are for sale.
If you want any details, pm me and I will put you in touch. The bikes are in West Yorkshire.

Although it's not for sale, I thought you might be interested in a couple of pictures of my brothers recently restored MBX80.

Just to give him the credit he deserves, this is how it looked when purchased from ebay.
It was originally only purchased for the wheels, but he got carried away with it!

Very nice restoration, and good to see another rarely-seen bike back up and running.
Does the watercooled MBX50/80 engine share any parts with the NSR50/80 Gag mini-bike ? Be nice to squeeze a few more MPH out of my wife's 50... |

Go on admit it, you were "just seeing how much they were going for" Anyway, the guy says he's spent nearly £2000 on it (carn't see where) and he's done the bike an injustice by not having the "MBX 80" logo on the side panels. My brothers restoration costs are nothing like 2K. |

That MBX lookes lovely. Brings back many happy memories. How many new parts were used.
Strokerboy - yes the engine is the same (apart from minor detail differences over the years) and the crank is common between the 50 & 80. You can get an Athena nicasil cylinder of 110cc but don't know what crank life would be like. I'm tempted for my MTX which also uses the same motor. _________________ Alastair

Very few new parts were used in the rebuild (indicators, grips, mirrors, fasteners ect) all the body work is original (apart from the tank which was rotten, an "as new" replacement was found on ebay germany for very little money) it involved a lot of repair work in various areas. A number of parts came in a "job lot" purchase from ebay, these included hard to find standard exhaust and standard rear fender. So basically its not a bike that has been rebuilt using loads of NOS parts. |

Hi guys, Love the MBX80 re-build! I take it this the machine from MB5.co.uk?
I am looking for a MBX80 for restoration if anybody has one?
I had a MBX50 in black when I was 16 which I fitted an aftermarket belly pan to. When I turned 17 I upgraded to MBX80 FWD in white (reg B748 BBP) to do part one test on (remember those!) & I would love to get hold of another!
cheers
Dan

Saw an advert last week from a bloke selling a pair of them. Think it was in the latest Classic Mechanics magazine ? I'll see if I can find it. |

Be interesting to hear your experiences if you do find one. I'm currently using my 80 to commute to work on to dodge traffic. I'd forgotten what awkward little motors they are to ride and how heavy they are on petrol. And the plume of smoke when used hard. _________________ Alastair
