Yep, me too.
But a press is my next target, I would love to be able to sort cranks out myself.
It may be a lot to learn but bring it on |

Ok, after a very busy year, I started work on my Ns engine today.
Had been putting it off because I wasn't sure what I was going to find.
Well apart from a missing RHS crank seal (how it was running without one, I have no idea but it does explain the amount of oil in the crank!), it is in pretty good condition, no bodges, no chisel marks on the cases & everything came apart without too much of a struggle.
However, once cleaned up & ready to put back together I found the new RHS bearing I bought was the wrong size, in the right box but far too big to fit the NS.................aagghhhhh bloody suppliers
New one should be here tomorrow. |

Bottom end completed today, just waiting on a new piston kit.
Found a couple more problems though. One dowel missing that holds the kick start, stop plate in position, fortunately I had one in my box of spares
And a mysterious washer. It was with the idler gear (like most people I like to keep all the parts together in the order they came out) but according to the haynes manual, there isn't a washer under the idler gear
However there is one under the clutch basket, which wasn't on my clutch basket as removed! I'm assuming the mystery washer is that one
I'm now starting to believe that it is worth having the engine apart on every bike you buy especially if it has the tell tale signs of being apart before |

I always worry when I've had something apart and on rebuild their seems to be bits left over... Surely people just add things that shouldn't be there and I'm just putting it right... _________________ We are where we are... |

I'm with you there TS
So, top end on, carb & exhaust fitted, first kick and...................
Fired up
Not for long though, little bit of tweaking needed on the carb & she is running sweetish......
There is just a faint, not sure how to describe it, 'tinking' sound from the bottom end, I'm hoping it's just a 'bedding' in noise
Any ideas people? |

Quick update, just because it's a bit quiet on here at the mo.
Haven't done anything interesting i'm afraid, just fired the bike up for the first time in months.
As it is running on premix & auto, that picture does not do it justice
However this is what the 'shed' looked like at the same time
You really have to love 2 strokes |

Really must crack on with the Ns125
Can't believe it's been 18 months since my last update (where does the time go?)
I have in that 18 months sourced a pretty good front mudguard & am waiting on a fuel tap. Just need to justify paying out for an aftermarket screen & seat cover I hate spending money.........
However, I found a bit of piston ring sitting on the engine I don't think it's from the Ns because I've been fairly busy with customer engine rebuilds & the chances are it came from one of those when I was removing old rings from perfectly good pistons.
But doubt has set in & I think I'll have the top end off just to make sure, I really don't like niggling doubt!
I may even VHT paint the barrel while it's off |
